Responsibilities and Expectations for VOH Supervisor

The Variable Overhead Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the shift operations within a textile yarn manufacturing facility. This role involves supervising personnel, coordinating activities, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards, and optimizing shift performance to maintain efficient production.

  • Work Safely and Follow Plant Safety Rules : Adhere strictly to all plant safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Shift Supervision : Direct and supervise all activities on the production floor during assigned shifts, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
  • Personnel Management : Manage shift personnel, including scheduling, training, performance evaluations, and addressing any personnel issues.
  • Production Coordination : Coordinate production activities to meet daily, weekly, and monthly production targets. Ensure that all processes are running smoothly and efficiently.
  • Quality Control : Monitor production processes to ensure that products meet quality standards. Implement corrective actions when deviations occur.
  • Safety Compliance : Enforce safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions for shift personnel.
  • Resource Allocation : Ensure that all necessary materials and resources are available for the shift. Coordinate with other departments to address any shortages or issues.
  • Problem-Solving : Quickly address and resolve any issues that arise during the shift, including equipment malfunctions, process disruptions, and personnel conflicts.
  • Reporting : Prepare and submit shift reports detailing production metrics, personnel issues, and any incidents that occurred during the shift.
  • Time keeping : Ensure accurate recording of time worked by shift personnel. Review and approve time electronic time sheets and ensure compliance with company policies on timekeeping and attendance.
  • Continuous Improvement : Identify opportunities for process improvements and work with the production team to implement changes that enhance efficiency and reduce waste.

  • Problem-Solving Skills : Quick and effective decision-making skills to address and resolve production issues.
  • Communication Skills : Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members and management.
  • Organizational Skills : Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Technical Skills : Familiarity with manufacturing equipment and software used in production.
  • Essential Physical Requirements

  • Standing / Walking : Standing and walking approximately 12 hours per day.
  • Sitting : Ability to sit down approximately 1 hour a day.
  • Moving : Move throughout the plant approximately 12 hours a day.
  • Lifting : Lift up to 50 lbs. and over with assistance, approximately 25% of the day.
  • Ascending / Descending : Walk upstairs, climb, and use ladders approximately 35% of the day.
  • Push / Pull / Reach : Use 10 to 15 lbs. of force to push and reach up to 72 inches.
  • Bending : Pick up objects from the floor approximately 25% of the day.
  • Visual Acuity : Read identification labels and complete required forms.
  • Cognitive Ability : Stay alert, make decisions, reason, and understand information 100% of the day.
  • Pulmonary Function : Work in a cotton dust environment and meet pulmonary function requirements.
  • Work Environment and Safety

  • Work around moving mechanical parts and powered industrial vehicles.
  • Noise level is generally loud.
  • Temperatures can exceed 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Humidity level can be more than 65% for 100% of the day.
  • Shift / Work Hours

  • Depend on open positions at the time of hire.
  • Weekends and holidays scheduled depending on business demands.
  • Standard shift :
  • 3 PM - 11 PM
  • Personal Protective Equipment Used

  • Safety glasses or goggles
  • Hearing protection (ear plugs or muffs)
  • Steel toe safety shoes
  • N95 dust mask
  • Cut-resistant gloves
  • Minimum Job Requirements : Must be able to read and write. Must have basic math and computer skills. Must pass vision and color vision tests. Competency / Aptitude testing may be required.

    Follow all Safety Rules and All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be used as required. Any accident or near miss must be reported immediately.
