Housekeeping Assistant Specialist I – Support Services Environmental, Full-time, Nights

The salary range for this position is $20.15 - $20.15 per hour. Placement within the salary range depends on relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement is guided by the collective bargaining agreement.

Description

  • Hours : 40 hours per week
  • Shift : 11 : 00 PM – 7 : 30 AM (works every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and holidays)
  • Location : Prentice; FL BS (Floater – works all hospital areas)
  • Union Hourly Compensation : $20.15 per hour (+$1.07 for shift differential) (non-negotiable). This non-exempt position is eligible for overtime.

The Housekeeping Assistant Specialist I, under the direction of the supervisor of Environmental Services, assists the supervisor in orientation of new departmental personnel and performs general and heavy cleaning of operating rooms, public areas, offices, and patient rooms.

Responsibilities

  • Vacuum carpeted surfaces and mops hard surface floors.
  • Assist supervisor in orienting new housekeeping assistants.
  • Perform general and heavy cleaning duties in offices, patient rooms, utility rooms, laboratories, public areas, and stairways, including washing floors, walls, furniture, beds with hospital-approved chemicals. Use ladders and scaffolds as necessary.
  • Clean window sills, empty ash trays and waste baskets.
  • Clean blood and body fluids.
  • Arrange furniture in patient rooms, bathrooms, offices, waiting and other public areas as assigned.
  • Clean bathtubs, sinks, mirrors, toilets and replace supplies as required.
  • May be dispatched to other areas as needs dictate.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Refinish floors, applying appropriate surface coatings.
  • Operate electrical and battery-operated machines for scrubbing, shampooing and burnishing.
  • Move furniture as directed and assist in freight moving.
  • Wash walls, blinds, lights and similar surface areas, and hang drapes.
  • Maintain and clean equipment; return upon completion.
  • Store equipment in assigned location (e.g., storeroom, janitor's closet) and keep area neat and orderly.
  • Perform heavy-duty mopping and cleaning.
  • Clean and polish floors using electric scrubbing machine, wet vacuum and / or buffer.
  • Apply floor finish as directed.
  • Empty trash chutes and clean waste containers.
  • Advises supervisor of unsanitary, unsafe or otherwise unsatisfactory conditions and defective or damaged fixtures, furniture or equipment.
  • Collect trash and debris in rooms, halls and stairways.
  • Remove and compact general waste and recycling materials; return compactor to "in" position upon completion.
  • Properly dispose of bio-hazardous waste.
  • Move all heavy furniture and equipment.
  • Clean rolling-stock furniture, hospital equipment and related items.
  • Strip, refinish and / or shampoo all types of floor surfaces and coverings.
  • Transport hospital property from area to area or building to building.
  • Properly utilize the Bed Tracking system :
  • Log into the computer at start of shift.

  • Move the "dirty bed", "clean next" bed, or a "stat bed" into "In Progress" category.
  • After completion move the bed into "Bed Ready" category.
  • Log out at end of shift.
  • Strips unit upon discharge; terminally cleans patient room and prepares for admission, including use of tent card and toilet seat strip.
  • Perform all in-between case cleaning in ORs, terminally clean all ORs and clean all LDRs after each delivery.
  • Return all keys and pagers.
  • Qualifications

    Required Qualifications

  • One to two years of experience.
  • Ability to understand oral instructions.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
