About the Role

NSC Staffing is seeking an experienced Journeyman Marine Painter to join our team in Jacksonville, FL . This position offers the opportunity to work on major ship repair and modernization projects, including U.S. Navy vessels, Military Sealift Command, and commercial ships.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of surface preparation, coating systems, and application methods following MIL-SPEC and SSPC standards . This role requires precision, safety awareness, and pride in craftsmanship.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and clean metal, fiberglass, and other surfaces by removing old coatings, rust, grease, and contaminants.

Apply coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray guns in accordance with technical drawings, specifications, and industry standards.

Mix paints and preservation materials accurately following product data sheets (PDS).

Mask, tape, and protect non-coated areas prior to painting.

Perform inspection and touch-up work as needed to maintain quality standards.

Assist and guide helpers or improvers to ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently.

Follow NAVSEA , ABS , and Coast Guard coating requirements as applicable.

Operate sanders, grinders, and other trade tools safely.

Complete daily work logs and report job progress to supervisors.

Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.

Qualifications

Minimum 6 years of painting experience , with at least 3 years in a marine / shipyard environment .

Proficient in brush, roll, and spray applications .

Strong knowledge of coating systems, surface prep, and application techniques.

Able to read and interpret drawings, work specifications, and MIL standards .

Familiarity with SSPC and NAVSEA Standard Item 009-32 .

Capable of writing simple condition reports and communicating effectively with team members.

Must be physically able to wear required PPE (hard hat, respirator, harness, etc.) and work in confined spaces or at heights.

Basic math and measurement skills (U.S. and metric).

TWIC card and OSHA training preferred.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50–100 lbs occasionally.

Perform work that requires climbing, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.

Comfortable working in shipyard environments, confined spaces, and outdoors in variable conditions.
