Senior Managing Editor Job at The Villages in Kissimmee

Within the spirit of "Making People's Dreams Come True", this position is responsible for enforcing newsroom policies, establishing coverage priorities, directing newsgathering activities, and advancing the development and performance of the editorial staff. These duties are accomplished while delivering Raving Fans customer service to both internal and external customers.

Responsibilities :

• Articulate a vision of journalistic excellence and provide the leadership necessary to achieve the highest level of quality.
• Deliver a strong community news report by making sound editing decisions, deploying resources strategically and directing superior work under deadline pressure.
• Confer with heads of editorial, production, advertising, and circulation departments to coordinate functions and operations between departments, develop editorial and operating procedures, and negotiate decisions.
• Consult legal counsel as needed to ensure that policies and operating procedures comply with federal and state law.
• Represent the newspaper at professional and civic functions, trade shows, social events, and other gatherings to strengthen community relations and support recruiting efforts.
• Assess the staff's training needs and make recommendations for meeting them.
• Take appropriate action with respect to costs and revenues to ensure the department meets its budget goals.
• Assist heads of editorial in charting overall strategy for the newsroom. Foster a culture of collaboration and contribute to a healthy team dynamic.
