What You Will Do :

• Process and review permit applications for residential and minor structures.
• Assist applicants with completing forms and check plans for accuracy.
• Research zoning, land use, and site-specific details to support approvals.
• Approve permits for small-scale projects like fences, pools, demolitions, and temporary structures.
• Calculate fees, handle payments and refunds, and maintain permit records.
• Issue permits and verify contractor credentials.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned for the position.

Career Progression : The expectation for any Building Plans Examiner I in the Department of Planning & Permitting is to learn and progress upward to higher Building Plans Examiner levels. A Building Plans Examiner I may progress up the career ladder and / or qualify for other higher level positions with satisfactory work experience and demonstration of applicable knowledge and skills. Minimum Qualification Requirements :

At the time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT : Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience that demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : Two years of general work experience which shall have included the operation of a personal computer, including or supplemented by one year of public contact work which requires, as a regular assignment, providing information, answering questions and inquiries, and explaining processes and procedures in person or by telephone.
