Overview
Kimley-Horn's Orlando, FL office is seeking a Power Systems Engineer in Training with 2+ years of experience to join their Power Delivery team. With a focus on serving clients within the power delivery and energy sectors, the Power Systems Engineer will act as a technical expert in the analysis of power systems transient and steady state. This is an in-office position.
Responsibilities
- Support the power electrical team to analyze systems, create software models, and write reports for various projects . commercial, industrial and generation projects
- Studies performed may include (per candidate experience):
Load Flow / Reactive Power Analysis Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Coordination studies using ETAP or any steady state power system toolTransient studies using PSS/E and PSCAD Harmonic studies using ETAP, PSCAD or transient software Partner with the electrical team to create calculations and drawings for various project typesContinually gain knowledge in power & energy industry - Assist with project design, specifications, and plans support
- Review work with quality in mind to confirm compliance with Kimley-Horn quality standards
Qualifications
- 2+ years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer for an engineering firm or EPC
- PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, WinIGS, or CDEGS experience preferred
- Understanding or willing to learn, the NEC 2020 and IEEE standards and keep up with emerging technologies
- General understanding of engineering and energy systems
- Load Flow, Coordination, Short Circuit, and Arc Flash studies basic theory and methodology
- Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work and manage several project teams concurrently
- The ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively
- The ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment
- PE certification or path to move towards certification is preferred
