Job description

Senior Account Clerk

Support the Honolulu Police Department by managing payroll and grant accounting with precision and integrity. The Honolulu Police Department, Finance Division, is hiring two (2) Senior Account Clerks in Honolulu. These positions play an important role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and maintenance of the department's financial records and accounting systems.

What you will do :

  • Work with federal and state law enforcement grants, including the Department of Justice, Homeland Security, and asset forfeiture programs.
  • Verify and reconcile payroll documents and reports to ensure compliance with City directives and federal grant conditions.
  • Audit payrolls, premium pay, and overtime to ensure expenditures meet grant requirements.
  • Process fund transfers, drawdowns, and adjustments for grant-related transactions in accordance with federal guidelines.
  • Maintain accounting ledgers, journals, and summaries of revenue collections, expenditures, and other grant-related financial data.
  • Compile and prepare fiscal and statistical reports for management and grant agencies.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education requirement : Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

Experience requirement : Four (4) years of clerical experience, three (3) years of which shall have been in account record keeping work. This experience must demonstrate the ability to : maintain fiscal accounts and records; prepare financial reports and statements; interpret fiscal records and data; compare names and numbers for accuracy; operate calculating and adding machines, typewriters, and standard office equipment; follow oral and written instructions; and work harmoniously with others.

Substitution : An Associate degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of clerical experience and up to one year of account record keeping experience. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field with at least 12 semester credit hours in accounting or auditing courses, of which six must be above the elementary course level and from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university, will substitute for all of the required experience.
