Essential Functions
Interacts professionally with patients / families; treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious / spiritual needs of patients and their familiesMaintains accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses, and assessment of changesDocumentation meets current standards and policiesFollows the six (6) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errorsMaintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical conditionPerforms all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical / health care errors, maintaining patient safety throughout the procedure.Adapts procedures to meet individual needs of neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients for treatmentApplies principles of sterile techniques and infection control proceduresPrepares surgical operating suite by ensuring that it is clean, sterile, and properly equippedArrange surgical instruments, drapes, solutions, supplies, and equipment, ensuring everything is in working order and readily accessible for the surgical teamAssists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patientsWork closely with the surgical team, passing instruments to the surgeon, maintain a sterile field, and assist with any necessary tasks to ensure a smooth and efficient operationContinually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgeryMakes decisions reflecting knowledge of assigned case and instruments and / or trays to be pulled for the procedureProvides patient with explanations and verbal reassurance, as necessaryReceives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratoryConsults with other staff members when in question or unfamiliar with equipment or procedurePost-operative care : help with transferring the patient to the recovery area, cleaning and restocking the operating room, and documenting the procedure accurately for medical recordsResponsible for post-operative sterilizing surgical instruments and ensuring they are properly maintainedThis includes cleaning, disinfecting, and assembling instruments according to sterilization protocols to maintain a sterile surgical environmentPerforms other reasonably related job duties as assigned or requested, within scope of practiceKnowledge / Skills / Abilities / Expectations
