Overview
Engineer II - Nuclear Assurance Safety Analyst. The Engineer II in the Nuclear Assurance Directorate performs duties as a Nuclear Safety Analyst and supports the performance of nuclear safety evaluations and analyses.
Responsibilities
- Assist in and support Nuclear Facility project upgrades and / or HC-2 / 3 Nuclear Facilities' safety basis including development and transmittal of supporting Preliminary Documented Safety Analyses (PDSAs), Safety Design Strategy (SDS), Conceptual, and Preliminary Safety Design Reports, Documented Safety Analyses (DSAs), and associated Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs), and all supporting documents and processes.
- Assist in the performance and evaluation of hazards / accident analyses to derive hazard controls, and the development of other documentation such as descriptions of safety management programs and associated specific administrative controls for the completion of PDSAs and DSAs, including upgrades and emerging issues to current HC-2 / 3 nuclear facilities.
- Support lead Safety Analysts in the day-to-day performance and priority of emergent work and necessary supporting nuclear safety documents, including interfacing, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, coordinating document reviews, expected completion dates and transmittal to federal and / or state regulatory oversight officials.
- Learn and understand the role of Criticality Safety Evaluations for fissionable material operations as they relate to the development of nuclear safety documents.
- Complete Unreviewed Safety Question (USQ) reviews (USQ Screen, USQ CatX, USQ Determination), as needed.
- Contribute to solutions of assignment-related problems and issues with a limited scope and of basic complexity within the nuclear safety functional area.
- Assist lead safety analysts in a role that interfaces with HC-2 / 3 nuclear facilities including facility management, projects, engineering, maintenance and operations in the implementation and communications, evaluation, and timing necessary to support development, review, and submittal of nuclear safety documents.
- Perform related work as assigned by lead analysts and / or supervisor.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by ABET for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering, or calculus-based STEM bachelor's degree in engineering, or for Architects, NCARB certification, or professional engineer license.Plus at least 2 years' relevant experience. Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge; graduate research experience may be recognized.Degree in Mechanical, Nuclear, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering preferred.Ability to interpret and apply codes and standards within the discipline.Ability to learn and apply governing Department of Energy regulations, requirements, and guidance for development, implementation, and maintenance of nuclear safety programs and safety basis documents.Must possess mathematical skill and ability to understand complex data, terminology, procedures, laws, and regulations.Must possess planning / organizing skills and initiative.Must be able to work both independently and collaboratively and apply professional knowledge to ensure that assignments are completed efficiently and on time.Must possess interpersonal communication skills to deal with contacts in an effective, positive, and professional manner, and work effectively both independently and collaboratively.Nuclear Facility Worker requirements per DOE Order 426.2; education and experience will be screened accordingly.Work location will be split between home and the Nevada National Security Site (65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, NV).Work schedule : 4 / 10's, Monday – Thursday (subject to change).Pre-placement physical examination, including a drug screen, is required; MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy with random drug testing.Must possess a valid driver's license.Security and Compliance

Annual salary range : $81,307.20 - $121,971.20 . Starting salary determined based on market value, candidate education and experience, and internal equity. The position is located in Nevada with a home / onsite work arrangement and the possibility of relocation if located more than 75 miles from the work location.
Note : This is a full-time position in the Government Administration sector.
