Are you looking for full-time year-round employment and want to enjoy 12 paid holidays each year? If so, the Utah Department of Corrections is looking for a Journey Maintenance / Carpenter, to perform the following responsibilities :

  • Make repairs to or complete jobs in the following trades. Woodworking / CabinetryDrywall repairPaintingFlooring - Commercial carpet squares and tilesRoof repairWindowsOverhead doors
  • Carpentry duties could also include helping with grounds work including mowing and snow removal.
  • May be subject to 24 / 7 emergency call out

This position is NOT public safety certified and does not require peace officer status or certification.

Entry salary will be $24.87 DHRM Rules will apply for current state employees and UDC Career Ladder guidelines will apply for current UDC employees.   • Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS) :

  • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7 / 1 / 2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.
  • Employees hired on or after 7 / 1 / 2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System. Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.
  • Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.
  • Paid Time Off :

  • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
  • Annual leave amounts increase with years of service.

  • Responsibilities

  • Coordinates projects and ensures adequate administrative controls, quality, and procedural efficiencies.
  • Operates, maintains, calibrates, and adjusts specialized equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems, makes adjustments, repairs, and / or performs preventative maintenance on vehicles, equipment, machinery, etc.
  • Maintains accurate records and logs.
  • Works in a wood shop doing cabinetry-type work.
  • Makes General repairs to the Facility.
  • Qualifications

  • Supplemental Information

  • Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and / or for long periods of time.
  • valid driver license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA53-3-202(1)(a).
