Drafter I

JOB DIMENSIONS : Job Summary :

Under general supervision, perform basic drafting and design work using 2D and 3D computer-aided design ("CAD"), applications, equipment, or manual techniques; and perform related duties as assigned.

Reports to :

Assistant Engineering Manager

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities :

Work from engineering change orders and specifications;
Answer basic questions regarding drafting requirements;
Draft and revise assembly and parts drawings and hydraulic schematic drawings using CAD equipment or by mechanical drafting;
Assure that documentation requirements have been specified on the program directive and work orders;
Verify applicable sketches, lay outs, dimensional calculations, catalogs and design memoranda;
Verify completeness of drawings and assure conformance to the standard drafting procedures of applicable specifications and that all documents called out on drawings are released and are currently in effect;
Regular punctuality, attendance, and absence reporting in conformance with company policies is essential to the successful performance of this position; and
Fully comply with company rules, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure safe and effective operations.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES :

Any combination equivalent of, but not limited to, the following :

Experience / Training / Education :

High school diploma or equivalent; minimum two years design / drafting experience, technical training or certification in mechanical design and drafting; experience in 2D and 3D computer-aided design / drafting applications, such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks, are required.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :

Ability to organize and lay out work to be generated on computer or by manual drawing;

Ability to prepare accurate and detailed manual and computer drawings;

Basic knowledge of AutoCAD functions or equivalent CAD drafting application program;

Basic knowledge of SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling software;

Basic knowledge of drawing file management software applications such as PDM Works or EPDM;

Familiarity with "ANSI / ASME Y14.5M" standard for geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T);

Ability to perform basic math computations;

Ability to read and interpret production blueprint specifications, engineering change orders and new engineering data;

Ability to understand and follow work instructions orally or in written form;

Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others;

Basic knowledge of military drawing practices and specifications; and

Ability to maintain extended mental concentration for drafting work.

Physical Requirements :

Ability to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, filing cabinets, photocopiers and other office equipment, as applicable;

Most work tasks are performed indoors where temperature is moderate and controlled by office environment systems;

Ability to work (sit and / or stand) at a desk for majority of the work day; walking and / or standing may be required for the remainder of the work day. Length of time performing these physical requirements may vary from day to day and task to task;

Requires grasping, writing, sitting, standing, walking, repetitive motions, pulling, pushing, listening and hearing ability, and visual acuity;

Ability to occasionally lift and / or carry up to 15 lbs.; and

Ability to perform essential functions of the job, as defined;
