Fire Protection Program Manager
The Maintenance and Site Services Central Execution group (MSS-CE) is a customer-based group whose mission is to provide the Laboratory with qualified workers and subject matter experts who can support, maintain, repair, and replace specialty equipment and work on specialty programs in a safe, efficient manner. As a Fire Protection Program Manager, you will play a vital role in safeguarding the Laboratory's mission by ensuring the reliability and compliance of fire protection systems across key facilities. Reporting directly to the Maintenance and Site Services Central Execution Maintenance Manager, you will provide technical leadership and field-based oversight to ensure safe, effective, and code-compliant operations. Your daily presence in the field-working closely with craft professionals, superintendents, and work execution managers-will be essential to driving excellence in fire protection performance. You will author and maintain preventative maintenance instructions that are practical, compliant, and effective for field execution, while also supporting workforce qualification and training initiatives. In this role, you will actively participate in preventive and corrective maintenance efforts, as well as new project development related to fire protection systems. Additionally, you will creatively develop and present performance metrics that communicate program health, efficiency, and continuous improvement opportunities to management. What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements :
Fire Protection Systems Expertise : Demonstrated knowledge and experience leading maintenance activities for fire protection systems, with a thorough understanding of applicable codes and standards including NFPA 13, NFPA 72, and Life Safety requirements.
Technical & Code Compliance Skills : Proven ability to interpret and apply project plans, sprinkler system designs, and schematics to ensure full compliance with relevant fire protection and building codes.
Technical Proficiency : Working knowledge of the technical discipline relevant to the assigned area of focus, with the ability to interpret technical data and apply engineering or maintenance principles effectively in real-world applications.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement : Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal customers, coordinating across diverse functional areas such as operations, maintenance, and safety to achieve common goals.
Team Leadership & Collaboration : Strong ability to plan, organize, lead, and monitor multidisciplinary teams to successful project completion, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and teamwork.
Interpersonal & Communication Skills : Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to build trust, gain consensus, deliver clear technical information, and resolve conflicts constructively.
Education / Experience : Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Training / Certifications : NICET Certifications desired.
Desired Qualifications :
Working knowledge of P-950 and AP-Work documents related to the planning and execution of maintenance activities.
Working knowledge of testing, maintenance, and inspection procedures for fire protection systems.
Experience with general troubleshooting of fire protection systems and components.
Demonstrated ability to write and maintain preventative maintenance instructions that are practical, compliant, and field-ready.
Willingness to maintain a strong field presence, actively engaging with craft, superintendents, and customers to ensure high-quality maintenance delivery.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and Teams, with the ability to effectively manage project documentation and communication.
Demonstrated ability to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to enhance decision-making, efficiency, and problem-solving.
Strong initiative and commitment to professional growth, with a desire to pursue ongoing technical training and continuous learning opportunities.
Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Work Schedule : This job is flexible to the approved LANL work schedules. Some after-hour work or weekend support may be needed to complete projects.
Position Commitment : Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
