Our client is seeking an experienced Healthcare Regulatory Attorney in Houston, Texas to represent healthcare professionals and entities in complex regulatory and compliance matters. This role will focus on defending clients before professional licensing boards, navigating insurance-related disputes, and handling government recoupment actions. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of healthcare regulations, administrative hearings, and compliance issues, with the ability to provide practical, strategic counsel in high-stakes situations.
Key Responsibilities
Represent healthcare professionals in hearings before the Texas Medical Board, Texas Board of Nursing, and other regulatory bodies
Handle compliance and enforcement matters involving the Texas Department of Insurance
Defend clients in recoupment actions initiated by Novitas, Qlarant, CMS, and other agencies
Provide legal guidance on healthcare regulations, administrative procedures, and compliance requirements
Draft, review, and argue motions, briefs, and related filings for administrative and judicial proceedings
Develop and implement defense strategies tailored to professional licensing and healthcare enforcement actions
Advise clients on risk management, compliance strategies, and proactive responses to regulatory inquiries
Collaborate with internal teams, experts, and external stakeholders to deliver comprehensive client service
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active license to practice law in Texas
5+ years of experience in healthcare regulatory law, administrative law, or related fields
Strong advocacy skills with demonstrated experience in hearings, administrative proceedings, or trials
Excellent research, writing, and oral communication skills
Ability to manage multiple, complex matters with professionalism and attention to detail
Preferred Experience
Prior experience with the Department of Justice or other government/regulatory agencies
Background in healthcare compliance, insurance law, or professional licensing defense
Established relationships with healthcare providers and familiarity with board processes in Texas
