Executive Director, Paid Media and Web

We are looking for an Executive Director of Paid Media and Web to join the Brand and Performance team within our Marketing department. The ideal candidate will be an experienced, innovative leader with a proven track record of leading paid media and website teams to accelerate, scale, and optimize our go-to-market engine, driving brand awareness, consideration, and acquisition. In this role, the Executive Director will be responsible for developing and executing our paid media and website strategies to promote our brand and propel the prospect pipeline.

For the paid media aspect, we are looking for a candidate with a strategic and tactical understanding of digital platforms, including paid search, lead generation aggregator partners, social media (e.g., LinkedIn, Meta, etc.), programmatic display, and digital video. This individual should have a curious mindset, always seeking better ways to achieve results through strategic investments and ongoing optimizations. Regarding the website, this role requires a deep understanding of strategic design, conversion rate optimization (CRO), search engine optimization (SEO), content distribution, product positioning, and the ability to collaborate with developer teams for timely delivery.

The Executive Director of Paid Media and Web will have a proven track record in either a B2B or B2C company, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to understanding and navigating the customer funnel, spend efficiency, and ongoing optimization. This individual should possess a perpetual curiosity for finding new and innovative ways to boost performance and increase efficacy. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and engage professionally with executive leadership and diverse stakeholders across marketing, IT, sales, operations, and product teams is essential. Your creative, strategic, and execution-focused mindset should be backed by an analytical approach to customer journey mapping, enabling you to relentlessly fine-tune our go-to-market strategy, optimize prospect pipeline generation, and enhance brand perception in the market.

The Team : The Brand and Performance Marketing team encompasses brand strategy and experience, creative services, go-to-market content, paid media, and website strategy. Our team is entrusted with devising, producing, introducing, and refining superior go-to-market strategies from branding through to demand generation. Our ultimate goal is to successfully position athenahealth as the most admired and considered company in our category.

Job Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and optimize comprehensive B2B GTM digital acquisition campaigns across various channels, including SEM (SEO, Paid Media), Display, and ABM, while utilizing multi-million-dollar budgets with best-in-class MarTech stack.

Relentlessly manage the budget and fine-tune spend and strategies to drive spend efficiency and improve ROI, return on ad spend (ROAS), and return on marketing investment (ROMI).

Provide strategic guidance to agency partners and internal teams to develop and execute a comprehensive go-to-market strategy aligned to our vision, business goals and objectives.

Establish, analyze, and interpret data to provide actionable insights and mercilessly drive performance to become better.

Oversee the planning, design, execution, and maintenance of athenahealth.com with a focus on creating a modernized, audience-first, and mobile-first experience optimizing site performance, user experience, customer satisfaction and conversation rates at every turn.

Oversee the planning, creation, and execution of digital tools to help better inform prospects and accelerate our sales funnel.

Collaborate with senior leadership to surface plans, provide unwavering visibility into work and incorporate inputs into the broader business strategy.

Manage and lead a team of paid media, and website professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering a collaborative work environment.

Foster strong partnerships with key stakeholders to drive a unified approach to work and initiatives.

Partner closely with the brand, creative and content teams to support content strategy, creative delivery and strengthen athenahealth’s brand position at every touchpoint.

Lead the adoption of new technologies and ways of working to improve output and impact.

Typical Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, communications, or related field. Masters preferred.

10+ years leading paid media and website strategy; managing internal teams, contractors, and agency partners.

Have led or been part of a b2b or b2c business which has supported a full-funnel go-to-market strategy to drive leads or sales.

Experience with driving programs to increase conversions and sales.

Ability to thrive in an extremely fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

Ability to manage high-priority, high-visibility projects.

Growth oriented mind-set with an ability to leverage data and insights to inform recommendations and drive results.

Demonstrated track record of building and optimizing websites, online tools and digital experiences.

Audience-centric thinker laser focused on the ideal user experience.

Deep understanding of media & web trends, technologies, and best practices.

Strong executive presence and communication skills.

B2B and / or B2C Experience, preferably in B2B Healthcare IT or Technology.

Experience in Adobe Analytics and Adobe Target.

Both client side and agency experience preferred.

Experience with Google ads, social media management platforms (e.g. Meta, Linkedin, etc.), programmatic buying, video / CTV. and media research & optimization tools.
