Explore Our Incentives - See Salary Section Below!

If you are looking to join an elite team of law enforcement professionals determined to safeguard America, the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) offers an incredible opportunity for you. This is your chance to become a part of a dynamic team dedicated to protecting our borders, with excellent pay, exceptional federal benefits, and job stability.

Salary and Benefits:

The annual base salary for newly appointed Border Patrol Agents varies based on grade, as follows:

GL-5/GL-7: $49,739 - $89,518 per year.

Duty locations impact pay rates; federal law enforcement receives higher locality pay in some areas. Fully trained Border Patrol Agents may be eligible for up to an additional 25% of base pay per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with potential promotions up to GS-12 after successfully completing 52 weeks at each grade level.

Border Patrol Agents enjoy a comprehensive array of federal employment benefits, including health and dental insurance, generous annual and sick leave, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).

Recruitment Incentive: Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents may receive up to a $20,000 incentive. The first $10,000 is awarded upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy, with the remaining $10,000 provided for accepting a prioritized location.

Retention Incentive: Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents could also qualify for up to $40,000 in incentives over the first four years of service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

As a Border Patrol Agent, you will play a crucial role in protecting the American people, deterring illegal activities, and enhancing national prosperity. Typical responsibilities may include:

  • Questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting their documents.
  • Preventing and apprehending undocumented individuals and smugglers by maintaining surveillance.
  • Analyzing physical evidence related to illegal entries of persons or contraband.
  • Conducting various checks, including farms, buildings, and vehicles.
  • Patrolling international boundaries and coastal areas using government vehicles and equipment.

Qualifications:

You may qualify for the GL-5 grade level if you possess:

  • One year of general work experience demonstrating decision-making skills and the ability to handle stressful situations.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent educational experience.
  • A combination of relevant experience and education.

You may qualify for the GL-7 level if you have:

  • One year of specialized work experience demonstrating the ability to make sound judgments, enforce laws, and interact effectively with individuals.
  • A bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or relevant graduate-level education.
  • A combination of experience and education.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be a U.S. citizen to apply.
  • Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years is required.
  • Candidates must be referred for selection before their 40th birthday unless otherwise exempted.

Training Requirements: After hiring, you will be detailed to the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, for approximately six months of intensive law enforcement training.

How to Apply: To apply, you will follow the application process as indicated on the U.S. Border Patrol website. Ensure you review all details of the job announcement and submit all required documents.

We invite you to take this step toward an exciting career with the U.S. Border Patrol!
