Job description

Join a dedicated healthcare team in the Pacific Northwest region as an Emergency Department Technician. This role involves providing direct patient care and supporting clinical staff in a fast-paced emergency setting. You will work under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Physicians, contributing to high-quality patient experiences and efficient care delivery.

Job Summary

As an Emergency Department Technician, you will perform a variety of technical and patient care tasks including CPR, vital signs monitoring, cardiac telemetry, EKG acquisition, wound care, splinting, bladder scanning, and assisting with procedures. You may also assist with phlebotomy and glucose testing if certified. Your role includes patient transport, personal care assistance, and maintaining a safe, clean environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care within scope and competency under clinical supervision.
  • Support triage by greeting and orienting patients, assisting with room setup and patient transport.
  • Assist patients with personal hygiene, mobility, meals, and comfort measures.
  • Monitor cardiac telemetry and promptly communicate changes to clinical staff.
  • Perform administrative duties such as documenting care, transcribing orders, and coordinating tests and procedures.
  • Maintain unit supplies, clean patient rooms, and adhere to infection control protocols.
  • Participate actively in team efforts, respond to emergency codes, and support a positive work environment.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
  • Completion of a state-approved Certified Nursing Assistant (NA-C), Medical Assistant Certified (MA-C), or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program with active certification.
  • Minimum two years of patient care experience, preferably in acute care, emergency department, or first responder roles.
  • Telemetry experience is a plus.
  • Licenses and Certifications

  • Current Nursing Assistant (NA-C), Medical Assistant Certified (MA-C), or EMT certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
  • Medical Assistant Phlebotomy certification to be obtained within six months of hire.
  • Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of patient care practices and ability to maintain required competencies.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and medical telemetry equipment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, composure, and confidentiality.
  • Physical Requirements

    Role involves frequent standing, walking, lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds, bending, and exposure to bloodborne pathogens with appropriate precautions.

    Work Environment

    This position works 12-hour shifts in a 40-hour workweek within a critical access hospital emergency department setting serving the Pacific Northwest region.
