Takes the lead in formulation of treatment plan including dischargeplan and its implementation with other members of the treatmentteam in accord with Patients Bill of Rights and the standard of care. Organizes data concerning patients families, personal medical andpsychiatric history, onset of symptoms, source of referral, emotionalreactions and behavior, and intellectual functions. Is responsible for ensuring that psychiatric treatment is in compliancewith TJC standards and other accreditation bodies standards and legalor judicial mandates. Reviews diagnostic and psychological testing to confirm physical andpsychiatric diagnoses as indicated including follow- up of results. Examines patients to determine general physical condition. Reviews orders on psychotropic medication according to acceptablemedical standards and in accord with the statutes as reflected in thePatients Bill of Rights and legal / judicial mandates. Recommends and orders laboratory and other special diagnostictests and evaluates material obtained. Determines condition and extent of mental disorders and formulatesa treatment plan and follow-up studies. Treats patients utilizing somatic, group, or milieu therapy, and otherpsychotherapeutic methods and medications. Serves as active medical staff member of the institution, eligible toserve as Officer of the organization, and is required to attend regularmedical meetings to discuss issues pertinent to medical / psychiatriccare of patients. Participates in continuing medical education activities to maintainknowledge / skills required for professional competency to providethe best quality of care to patients. Directs activities of medical and other personnel engaged inrendering psychiatric treatment to patients. Writes up and presents at staff conferences data on patients fordiagnoses, treatments, and disposition. Provides appropriate and timely reports and testifies in civilcommitment hearings. Evaluates and provides appropriate and timely reports and testifiesin judicial reviews of insanity acquittees. Makes required rounds and inspections. Maintains complete / adequate case records and renders periodicand incidental reports. Will fulfill requirements of the United States Food and DrugAdministration (FDA) Risk Evaluation and Management Strategiesas directed by the DBHS Medical Director. Will comply with all Medicare / Medicaid enrollment applicationsfor reassignment of benefits. Will be required to learn how to utilize various types of electronicand / or manual recording and information systems used by theagency, office, or related units.
