Position Overview
As a Lead Counselor , you will lead fellow counselors and manage an individual caseload. You will participate in facility committees, perform management‑related duties as specified by the Clinical Supervisor / Clinical Director, and assist in problem‑solving, conflict resolution, state readiness, CARF visits, and other assigned areas.

Key Responsibilities
Ensure completion of patient databases, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other documentation in accordance with federal and state standards and agency policies.Provide patients with orientation regarding program objectives, phase system requirements, rules and regulations, sanctions, services hours, patient rights, and additional information.Assure each patient is assessed and placed according to treatment phases in accordance with Federal and State standards.Maintain all clinical documentation and patient charts in line with established policies.Counsel patients in crisis situations by identifying resources and coping strategies.Counsel non‑compliant patients to increase awareness of consequences.Arrange referrals to community agencies when appropriate.Participate in case conferences and reviews.Review counselor documentation and sign off as directed by the Clinical Supervisor or Clinic Director.Assist with overall direction and development of all substance abuse services.Participate in treatment team meetings and grievance hearings.Conduct / assist with weekly staff meetings with the counseling team.Conduct / assist with ongoing review of counselor case files for compliance with Federal, State, and PTC requirements.Assist Clinical Supervisor / Director with annual performance reviews of counseling staff.Assist in state and CARF inspections, staff meetings, and other areas.Assist with in‑service training for clinical teammates on a regularly scheduled basis.Monitor clinical records for quality and compliance, conduct mock inspections.Perform intakes on new patients.Develop preliminary and comprehensive treatment plans.Provide training and technical assistance to community agencies.Guide counselors in managing difficult or complex patients.Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date case files per federal, state, and PTC requirements.Oversee substance abuse counseling case assignments and discharges.Attend team meetings and complete all training courses timely.Attend ongoing training per program, Federal, and State requirements.Other duties as assigned.Pay Range
$27 per hour to $31 per hourQualifications
Certification as an Alcohol and Other Drug Counselor with a CA‑approved certification agency, or current credentials as licensed or license‑eligible with the Board of Behavioral Sciences or the Board of Psychology.
If license‑eligible, must maintain the Board’s requirements, including receiving required clinical supervision from a Board‑approved supervisor.Proof of licensure or certification by a State‑approved regulatory agency is required immediately upon employment.Experience in evaluating patients, treatment planning, and counseling services.
Knowledge of illicit drug use and treatment.Organizational and time‑management skills.Strong written and verbal communication.Professional demeanor and customer‑service practices.Competence with Microsoft computer programs.Proof of licensure or certification by a State‑approved regulatory agency is required immediately upon employment.Preferred
