Position Summary
The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in daily operations, including maintaining the general ledger, preparing journal entries, and ensuring accurate accounting across departments. The incumbent oversees regulatory reporting, audits, investor servicing, wire transfers, and fixed asset management, while liaising with internal and external service providers. This role also ensures compliance with FDICIA internal controls and contributes to the development of departmental policies and procedures. This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.
This position can be located in Mandeville or New Orleans
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in a related business field or 4 years of comparable experience
- 2 years' experience in the Finance / Accounting group of a financial institution
- Excellent accounting skills and working knowledge of regulations governing accounting in financial institutions
- General understanding of all phases of the institution's operations
- General understanding of how core applications interface to the general ledger
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Analytical, problem solving, judgement, organization & planning
- Follow-Through, resourcefulness, initiative
- Strong communication skills (listening, speaking, writing), resilience & balance, collaboration
- Technology skills including project management and technical acumen

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Skills
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and / or other industry certificationsMaster's degree in accounting5 years' experience as an Assistant Controller or Accounting Manager / SupervisorExperience in a public financial institutionEssential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise accounting staff, including timecard approvals, hiring participation, and trainingAssist Controller with daily operations and advise departments on proper accounting treatmentPrepare support for external / internal audits and FDIC / OFI examinationsPrepare the annual FDIC Regulatory Summary of DepositsMaintain Fixed Assets system, process additions / disposals / transfers, manage annual inventory, and LAT-5 reportingOversee file transmissions and payments for serviced investor portfolios (FNMA, FHLMC, MPF / FHLB, etc.), reconcile discrepancies, and complete monthly / annual reportingManage the wire transfer process and enforce related policiesCoordinate with FISC DP Service Provider and IT for GL entries and application issuesMaintain the general ledger and application interfacesReview internal deposit accounts and reconciliations; resolve issuesPrepare journal entries and monthly expense accrualsMonitor Investment Portfolio purchases / sales and securities collateralizationContribute to departmental policies, procedures, and internal controlsOversee FDICIA internal controlsRepresent Fidelity with core values : Integrity, Community, Dependability, Excellence, Longevity, AccountabilityComply with regulatory rules through training and demonstrated abilityPerform other duties or special projects as assignedPhysical requirements : primarily sitting with some standing, walking, lifting and bendingFidelity Bank is an Equal Opportunity Employer / Veterans / Disabled.
