This technician operates x-ray equipment in support of the provision of diagnostic and / or therapeutic services to a specified patient population.
Responsibilities
- Arrange patients for radiological exams
- Perform diagnostic radiological exams for use in diagnosis of disease
- Prevent patients from unnecessary radiation exposure
- Perform portable X-ray exams
- Develops exposed X-ray files
- Perform administrative duties as needed for patient instructions, film-filing, and maintenance of records

Following principles of medical ethics for medical assistantPreparing patients for radiological procedures and take X-rays following established procedures for patient care and safetyAssisting patients any time need is apparent or as directed by supervisory staffPerforming medical assistant and radiological proceduresAssisting the providers with patients, including preparing patients and the examination rooms; taking initial medical history for the chart, taking vital signs, and explaining the process to the patientsAssisting provider in all special procedures, including minor surgery, as requiredPerforming x-rays as directed by the providerGiving instructions to patients as instructed by providerAssisting with any procedures that have been taught through formal training or by physicianKeeping medical records in accordance to procedures and formsFollowing HIPAA guidelines for patient confidentialityKeeping rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, washes and dries instruments used, and prepares sterilization as requiredCleaning wounds, drawing labs, electrocardiograms and applying dressings and splints as directed by providerAssisting in lab procedures under the supervision of provider and for which training has been given. Other duties may consist of notifying patients of lab results, giving vaccines, immunizations and medications prescribed by the doctor; lab work consisting of throat cultures, hematocrits, and urinalysis.Receiving and handling phone callsResponsible for proper handling and storage of all medications stored in the officeKnowledge of the physical and operational characteristics of radiologic equipmentKnowledge of x-ray principles, procedures and standardsKnowledge of sterile proceduresKnowledge of appropriate x-ray exposure times and safety parametersKnowledge of photographic development techniquesMust demonstrate the knowledge of the principle of growth and development of the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his / her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the Center's policies and proceduresAbility to read and communicate effectively in English, additional languages preferredMust be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served in the CenterAbility to calibrate, configure, and adjust x-ray equipment and associated facilities and devices in accordance with procedures and standardsAbility to understand, follow, and enforce safety proceduresAbility to safely lift, and physically manipulate patientsAbility to make administrative / procedural decisions and judgmentsDemonstrates the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, coworkers, and other health team membersHours and Working Conditions
Our ASC is located in Orlando, Florida. Work hours may be subject to change, depending on surgery schedule.
Hazards : Occasional contact with communicable diseases, electrical equipment, blood borne pathogens, etc.
Personal protective equipment : Provided if necessary (gowns, gloves, masks, head cover)
