The Brookline Police Department's Community Crisis Intervention Team is seeking qualified candidates for the position of CIT-TTAC Clinician. The CIT-TTAC Clinician will provide clinical consultation and assistance to the Brookline Community Crisis Intervention Team and the Norfolk County Crisis Intervention Team Training and Technical Assistance Center (CIT-TTAC) and will assist with behavioral health trainings for police officers throughout Norfolk County as well as serving as a clinical resource within the Brookline Police Department, collaborating with sworn members of the Department to assist community members with mental health and / or substance use conditions. The goal of these efforts is to divert individuals from unnecessary criminal justice involvement, connect them with appropriate resources and services, and promote safety and stability in the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Working under the the general supervision of the Social Services Manager and the CIT Supervisor, the Clinician will perform the following essential functions :

• Assists with behavioral health trainings provided through the Norfolk County CIT-TTAC, including clinical review of training curriculum, providing in-the-moment clinical insight during trainings, direct presentation of particular topics as needed / appropriate, and general assistance with facilitation of training activities.
• Updates curriculum as needed to reflect current community issues and trends as well as latest research; develops specialized curriculum for specific police audiences such as college and university police departments.
• Provides technical assistance to other Norfolk County police departments to support implementation of CIT programs and improved mental health response.
• Provides clinical consultation services to Norfolk County Police Departments on chronic or challenging cases involving mental illness, substance use, homelessness, or other related issues.
• Collaborates with staff at other CIT-TTACs as well as Department of Mental Health Forensic Services in order to promote consistency and quality of CIT trainings and technical support.
• Under the supervision of the Social Services Manager, provides direct clinical assistance as needed to adults, children, and families in Brookline who come into police contact due to underlying behavioral health conditions. This includes crisis assessment, stabilization and support, and connection to appropriate resources and services in order to prevent or reduce future crises and criminal justice involvement.
• As requested by police, co-responds to active emergencies and provides on-scene assessment and crisis intervention.
• Enhances police response to community emergencies as needed, such as suicides, high impact accidents, and other situations involving community trauma.
• Assists the police department with community services as requested, such as participation at public educational events and forums.
• Consults as needed to town agencies such as the Brookline Public Library, Brookline Public Schools, Parks Department, and Health Department, as well as other community institutions such as temples and local businesses on responding to individuals with mental health conditions or related issues such as homelessness.
• Supports Brookline Police in facilitating quarterly community stakeholder meetings and monthly case conferences in order to mobilize community resources and coordinate service efforts between different systems to more effectively meet the needs of community members.
• Assists with supplying documentation to demonstrate compliance with the terms of the CIT-TTAC grant, including active participation in meetings facilitated by and reporting required by DMH Forensic Services staff.
• Works with officers and the Brookline District Court to advocate for diversionary approaches to justice-involved individuals, when appropriate.
• Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.

Qualifications :

Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology; five to seven years working in crisis response, emergency mental health, or related field, including work with children and families; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience working with police departments and / or other criminal justice agencies preferred.

Special Requirements :

Knowledge, Ability and Skill :

Knowledge : Knowledge of relevant local and statewide service systems related to mental health, substance use, disability services, and elder services; familiarity with the criminal justice system and state and federal agencies. Strong clinical understanding of psychopathology, trauma theory, and other relevant clinical approaches to supporting individuals in crisis.

Ability : Ability to perform crisis stabilization and community-based behavioral health assessment for both adults and youth. Ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of town, school, and community agencies to promote safety and well-being of at-risk community members. Ability to engage in commitment to principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and ongoing engagement with anti-racist practices.

Skill : Experience working within and / or familiarity with law enforcement culture. Must have crisis intervention skills, social work skills, supervisory skills, presentation skills, and facilitation skills. Strong organizational skills, demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Experience with grant management and compliance documentation; Literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other programs as needed

Salary Range : $78,713 - 89,060 annually with excellent benefits.
