The Material Handler Supervisor is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing a team of 6–10 material handlers and ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient movement and storage of materials throughout our distribution center and three production facilities. This position requires working directly alongside the team on the floor while also coordinating closely with Production, Shipping, Inventory Control, and Fleet to proactively resolve bottlenecks and ensure seamless material flow across departments. Success in this fast-paced environment is measured by material flow efficiency, team productivity and adherence to safety and quality standards and requires strong time management, self-motivation, and the ability to make sound decisions independently while being actively engaged on the floor. You will need to set the pace for the team while fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
Duties and responsibilities
- Model the Company's Safety Culture and always strive for 100% Safety compliance
- Follow all food safety guidelines and protocols
- Supervise and support a team of material handlers across three shifts
- Participate in staffing decisions, including hiring, scheduling, and onboarding of material handling employees
- Participate in daily handling activities including receiving, staging, storing, and transferring raw and finished goods
- Ensure proper inspection and documentation of incoming materials, reporting any quality or damage issues
- Oversee the organization and accuracy of storage locations, maintaining FEFO and other inventory control practices
- Coordinate material movement to and from production in alignment with production schedules and requirements
- Ensure timely delivery of finished goods to shipping and outbound staging areas
- Partner with Inventory Control to resolve discrepancies and maintain accurate inventory records
- Work closely with Fleet personnel to coordinate inter-facility transfers using company-managed transportation
- Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work environment by enforcing established handling and safety procedures
- Provide leadership, training, and performance oversight for new and existing team members
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase team productivity and material flow efficiency
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
5+ years of Forklift & Reach Truck experience2+ years of prior leadership or supervisory experience in distribution or material handlingSolid understanding of material flow, storage systems, and established documentation practicesHigh attention to detail and organizational accuracyStrong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple departmentsProven ability to manage time effectively-for self and teamExperience working with cross-site teams and shift rotationsFamiliarity with ERP or WMS systemsTraining and coaching experienceAble to work independently and maintain productivity without close supervisionFlexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as neededWorking conditions
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule : other shifts, weekends, holidays as requiredMust be able to work overtime as necessary, including Holidays and / or weekends as requiredPhysical requirements
