Compensation Estimated Weekly Salary Range : $1890 - $1940 Medical / Surgical RN Job Details Job Title : Med / Surg Registered Nurse – Float Pool (Travel Nursing Job) Location : Newport News, VA 23601 (Virginia healthcare jobs) Facility : 450-bed Level II Trauma Center Contract Type : 13-week travel contract Start Date : 11 / 24 / 2025 End Date : 2 / 23 / 2026 Shift : Night Shift, 3x12-hour shifts per week (19 : 00 – 07 : 00) Total Hours : 36 hours per week Patient Ratios : Nights typically 1 : 6 Weekend Requirement : Minimum 3 weekend shifts per contract Registered Nurse Qualifications Current and active RN license in Virginia or compact state (Virginia nursing jobs) Minimum 2 years of recent Med / Surg RN experience (at least 18 months in Medical / Surgical specialty) BLS and ACLS certifications required NIHSS certification and recent stroke education required EPIC charting experience (must pass competency test during first week) Experience managing patient ratios of 1 : 6 on night shifts Ability to float to multiple units : 4 medical, 2 general surgery, 2 neuro, oncology (no chemotherapy administration), ortho Supervisory reference required for submission All specialty experience must be within the last 12 months Med / Surg RN Responsibilities Deliver high-quality nursing care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in a fast-paced Med / Surg float pool Float between medical, surgical, neuro, ortho, and oncology units as needed Monitor, assess, and document patient conditions using EPIC electronic health records Interpret and manage dysrhythmias and acute stroke (CVA) cases Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including IV therapy, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and social services Participate in rapid response situations and ensure compliance with hospital protocols Maintain accurate patient records and ensure continuity of care across multiple units Adhere to all safety, infection control, and regulatory standards in a clinical setting Apply now to join our healthcare team as a Travel Med / Surg Registered Nurse in Newport News, VA, and take the next step in your nursing career!
