Cloud Engineer

Hybrid 2 weeks per month onsite in Merrimack, NH or West Lake, TX

Our client seeks a Cloud Engineer to support production operations for cloud-based archival platforms. The role focuses on system stability, performance, and resilience while advancing observability, real-time performance insights, and automated response to reduce operational risk and improve recovery time.

Rate: $67.00 to $77.00/hr. w2

Responsibilities

• Provide production support for cloud-based archival platforms with a focus on stability, performance, and resilience.
• Enhance observability and real-time visibility into application and infrastructure performance.
• Automate alerting and response mechanisms to reduce operational risk and improve recovery time.
• Support and monitor AWS services and environments.
• Deploy and support Kubernetes workloads and Kafka-based integrations.
• Triage production issues, identify performance improvements, and partner with Engineering teams on remediation.
• Create clear operational documentation and collaborate across multiple teams.
• Troubleshoot under time constraints and maintain high service availability.
• Contribute to CI/CD and DevOps workflows for reliable releases.

Experience Requirements

• Hands-on AWS experience with services such as EC2, VPC, S3, IAM, Lambda, and CloudFormation.
• Strong production support background for Java applications.
• Kubernetes deployments and Kafka experience.
• Terraform for infrastructure as code.
• Proficiency with Linux administration.
• Knowledge of networking, firewalls, and load balancers.
• Containers and orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Programming experience with Java, Python, Bash, and PowerShell.
• Experience with CI/CD and DevOps tools.
• Monitoring, logging, and observability tooling experience.
• Database and storage concepts and support experience.
• Ability to triage production issues and identify performance optimizations.
• Ability to produce documentation and collaborate across teams.
• Ability to troubleshoot under pressure.
• Good CICS system knowledge (preferred).
• Gen AI knowledge (preferred).
• Motivation to learn basic mainframe navigation (preferred).
