Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical Unit

Unit Name : Med-Surg

Requirements :

Must have a valid TN RN License or Compact RN License in good standing

Minimum 1 year of Med / Surg experience

Certifications Required : BLS (required), ACLS (optional)

Patient Break Down : all medical-surgical patients, orthopedic and spine patients on the designated floor, trauma patients, psych medical hold patients, etc.

Must Have :

Strong assessment skills

Excellent prioritization and time management abilities

Reliable, punctual, organized, and strong communication skills

Advanced Skills Needed :

Critical thinking

Time management

Ability to care for diverse post-surgical and trauma patients

Procedures Performed on Unit :

General med-surg care

Post-catheterizations

Lap appy / chole

Thoracentesis / paracentesis

Spine and joint procedures

Hemodialysis / peritoneal dialysis

CBI

Unit Specifics :

Number of Beds : 54 total; 11 dedicated ortho / spine

Patient Ratios : 1 : 5–6

Unit Staffing : Supported by PCTs and RN / LPN teams

Equipment : Alaris pumps, remote telemetry, wound vacs, specialty beds, chest tubes, NG / feeding tubes

Documentation System : Meditech
