PWR Fuels Engineer- Birmingham at Southern Nuclear
Job Overview
Southern Nuclear Operating Company's corporate Nuclear Fuel and Analysis Department supports the PWR Southern Nuclear Fleet. The role reports to the PWR Fuel Engineering Manager in Birmingham, AL and involves up to 25% travel.
Responsibilities
- Perform activities related to nuclear fuel and core design, core management, operational support, reload safety analysis, reload licensing, and technical evaluations of vendor fabrication and design capabilities for current and advanced fuel products.
- Conduct spent fuel characterization and certification for long-term dry storage.
- Support six operating PWR units and may be required to assist the fleet Emergency Response Organization.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university (preferred). ORAdvanced degree in Nuclear Engineering with an accredited Bachelor of Science in another engineering field.Preferred : PE License or specialty certifications (e.g., Qualified Reactor Engineer).Experience & Background Requirements
Senior Engineer :Minimum 5 years in the nuclear industry.
Previous work experience in PWR fuel engineering.Ability to make independent decisions, assess risk, and lead technical meetings.Principal / Lead Engineer :Minimum 8 years in the nuclear industry.
Previous PWR fuel engineering experience.Independent resolution of complex technical issues.Extensive knowledge to lead and participate in professional committees.Equal Opportunity Statement
