Under supervision performs acetylene burning electric arc and oxy-acetylene welding in all positions on both light and heavy material to maintain the proper size contour fusion penetration and strength of welds and to prevent undercut overlap and slag inclusions in welds. Duties include but are not limited to the following :
and work from blueprints sketches and working drawings.
use various types of welding rods and machines such as mig tig bore welding machines servo graft burning machines etc.
out cut and fit material for welding.
air arc plasma cutting and carbon air arc cutting weld machinery equipment structures and bridges.
special hand and power tools.
various non-ferrous metals.
and grind welds.
basic rigging as required.
operate motor vehicles and equipment in the performance of assigned duties.
Note : Due to the existence of a civil service list candidates must have permanent civil service status in the title of Welder to be considered.

Qualifications :
Qualification Requirements
Five years of full-time welding experience acquired within the last ten years doing electric arc and oxy-acetylene welding in all positions on both light and heavy material. Two years of this experience must have been in oxy-acetylene welding.
License Requirements
Possession of a valid Welders License issued by the New York City Department of Buildings and certified for at least Class I Restricted Qualification Shop and Field (for groove welding of materials 3 / 4 inches or less in thickness and for all fillet welding both in all positions). At the time of appointment appointees will be required to possess a Certificate of Fitness Type G38 Torch Use of 0-2 Combustion Gas issued by the New York City Fire Department. Employees must maintain the Welders License and the Certificate of Fitness during their employment.
