Job Summary

Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for the position of Library Assistant . This role involves performing a variety of specialized, skilled, clerical, and paraprofessional activities to support the Circulation Department. Responsibilities include assisting students and faculty at the Circulation Desk, helping library patrons locate and retrieve resources, creating promotional materials and displays, documenting gate counts and reference transactions, troubleshooting equipment, managing overdue items, performing collection maintenance, shelving, and shelf reading. The role also involves answering reference and directional questions, referring patrons to appropriate staff, and managing the checkout / discharge of library materials, including GIL Express and interlibrary loan items. Some evening and weekend work is required. Additional related tasks may be assigned. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred. At least one year of related clerical or customer service experience. Must be able to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students. Must be computer literate and knowledgeable of library operations, applications, and policies related to circulation. Ability to perform clerical tasks accurately and with attention to detail. Good customer service skills are essential. Background and / or credit checks may be required.
