Standex Electronics designs, develops, and manufactures standard reed switch-based sensor solutions and custom electro-magnetic components. We partner with customers to deliver reliable high-quality results through engineering and components, serving a variety of markets globally.

A Product Engineer is a technical professional who creates design specifications for a variety of components, primarily including designing, developing, and enhancing products, components, and systems to meet required specifications and standards. They identify appropriate materials and processes, prepare technical documents, and complete proposals, prototypes, test plans, and reports to deliver products that meet customer specifications.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and refine products to meet customer needs and business objectives.
  • Translate customer specifications into cost-efficient manufacturable assemblies.
  • Support the sustainment of existing designs by providing ongoing design support post-launch.
  • Adapt existing designs to meet new customer requirements and applications.
  • Generate costing information for internally designed and customer-designed solutions.
  • Coordinate prototyping with internal and external partners to deliver products to customer expectations.
  • Communicate risks or delays in the completion of customer prototypes.
  • Establish test requirements and conduct testing of new product prototypes to verify conformance with specifications.
  • Create and process ECNs / ECOs as required to ensure documentation is released, controlled, and accurate.
  • Review and prepare drawings, establish product standards and specifications, and ensure documentation is accurate.
  • Review designs for feasibility, economics, and conformance to best engineering practice.
  • Complete reverse engineering activities to determine product specifications and materials.
  • Review, understand, and support customer program requirements for existing and new designs.
  • Interface with customers to establish performance / cost targets and drive launches of new products or changes, maintaining relationships with customer engineering teams.
  • Understand industry standards and organizational policies / procedures and ensure they are met.
  • Design to meet agency requirements and work with third-party testing agencies for compliance.
  • Collaborate with all functions to ensure information is relayed and documented for a smooth release of new products to production.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers to provide technical information, engineering recommendations, action plans, and risk assessment.
  • Assist commercial and technical personnel with feasibility assessments and proposals.
  • Support development and implementation of best practices, standards, policies, and procedures for the engineering department.
  • Support the implementation and use of lean methodologies such as Daily Visual Management, A3 Problem Solving, and Kaizen.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering program preferred; direct experience and qualifications will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 1+ years of engineering experience, including co-op rotations, is required.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience required.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience required.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience required.
  • Principal Product Engineer (P5)

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering required; Master of Science in Engineering preferred.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience required.
