Purchasing Manager | Up to $120k | Putnam, CT | Direct Hire

Job Description :

The Purchasing Manager will oversee supply chain operations with a focus on vendor management, purchasing, and production planning. This role is critical in ensuring materials and components are sourced cost-effectively, delivered on time, and aligned with manufacturing schedules. The ideal candidate will bring proven experience in purchasing for a manufacturing environment, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to guide a small team while remaining hands-on.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead day-to-day purchasing operations, vendor negotiations, and supplier relationship management.
  • Oversee materials planning and scheduling to align with production forecasts.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to meet technical purchasing requirements.
  • Monitor supplier performance, resolve issues, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Coach and guide a small purchasing / planning team while maintaining hands-on involvement.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, budgets, and operational goals.
  • Qualifications :

  • Proven experience in supply chain and vendor management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong planning and scheduling skills, with the ability to forecast demand and align with production needs.
  • Background in manufacturing purchasing processes and requirements.
  • Experience leading a small team, with a collaborative and hands-on leadership style.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with engineers on technical requirements (materials, tooling, components).
  • Excellent negotiation, organizational, and communication skills.
