Director Of Logistics And Receiving
The Director of Logistics and Receiving is responsible for overseeing the complete life cycle of assets, equipment, and inventory for IT Services, Facilities Services, the Department of Safety and Security, and Human Resources. This leadership role develops and implements standardized models and processes to enhance product delivery, inventory control, and the timely retirement of University assets. The Director collaborates closely with all operational departments and provides strategic direction through the management of logistics, receiving, and computer acquisitions teams. This position ensures consistent practices University-wide, drives operational efficiency, fosters vendor and stakeholder partnerships, and maintains high standards of customer service and financial stewardship.
Responsibilities :
- Oversees the end-to-end life cycle management of assets, equipment, and inventory across key University departments.
- Develops and implements standardized processes for asset delivery, inventory control, and retirement.
- Provides leadership to managers of logistics, receiving, and computer acquisitions.
- Collaborates University-wide to ensure consistent asset and inventory management practices.
- Establishes and manages departmental operating budgets, including financial forecasting.
- Negotiates with suppliers and manages vendor relationships to optimize costs and service quality.
- Ensures accuracy and completeness of asset, equipment, and supply inventories.
- Defines, monitors, and reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive operational improvements.
- Assesses staff performance and aligns resources for maximum productivity and project success.
- Identifies and implements process efficiencies to optimize University resources.
- Stays current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to asset management.
- Collaborates with manager regarding building management and maintenance. Places and monitors work requests. Supervises projects, and serves as liaison to central facilities staff and outside contractors.
- Hires, evaluates, and conducts performance evaluations. Plans and assigns work; exercises quality and quantity controls.
- Ensures the team maintains shipping and receiving activities and records. Resolves related shipping, receiving, and distribution problems. Coordinates with vendors and Budget to ensure that quality and pricing of supplies and equipment meet expectations.
- Manages daily operation and regular maintenance of shipping & receiving equipment; authorizes purchase of operating necessities; determines need and orders repair service.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications :
Education : Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.Work Experience : Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.Preferred Qualifications :
Minimum of five years experience collaborating with faculty and staff in a Tier 1 research university setting.Minimum three years of experience managing staff. Develop desktop and IT standards.Dealing with the ordering and shipping systems at Apple and Dell computers.Simultaneously tracking and managing a large number of open shipping orders.Scrap / recycling IT equipment and associated best practices for data destruction.Coordinating delivery appointments within a large community.Tracking and maintaining inventory.Preferred Competencies :
