Job Summary

As supervised and delegated by a Registered Nurse, provides direct patient care in the clinical setting.

Essential Functions

• To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Interacts professionally with patients / families; treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious / spiritual needs of patients and their families.
• Effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers, demonstrating customer service excellence through application of positive language principles, appropriate response and use of constructive problem-solving techniques which foster positive outcomes.
• Provides direct patient care, consults with nursing staff / providers as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
• Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
• Demonstrates knowledge of lab requirements, requisitions.
• Collects a baseline summary of a patient’s medical to include, check and record a patient's body temperature, pulse, respiration weight and blood pressure.
• Maintains accurate and continued documentation appropriately for all assessments, treatments, and evaluations performed. Documentation meets current standards and policies.
• Decisions made reflect knowledge of facts, knowledge of diseases / surgical conditions, care required and good judgment.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over patient life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population served.
• Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
