Job Description
Summary / Objective
The Network Technician will maintain and improve secure networks that connect mission simulators, Storage Area Networks (SANs), classrooms, servers, and support equipment. Day-to-day the role will monitor network performance, ensure systems are up to DoD standards, troubleshoot issues, document changes through configuration management, and partner with other engineering and support staff to keep training on mission.
In addition to supporting the operation and maintenance of secure networks, this position also serves as the site Information System Security Officer (ISSO), responsible for maintaining the cybersecurity posture of the system in accordance with DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements. The role ensures that all networked systems and simulators comply with applicable security controls, policies, and accreditation standards while supporting continuous mission readiness.

- Operate, monitor, and maintain program networks (routing / switches, VLANS, ACLs); perform fault isolation and root-cause analysis.
- Implement and sustain system configurations and Risk Management Framework (RMF) controls on network assets in coordination with the cybersecurity team.
- Assist the cybersecurity team with troubleshooting patching issues.
- Manage and document changes (adds / moves / changes, firmware, patches) via program Configuration Management (CM) processes; maintain documentation and drawings as required.
- Research to determine project feasibility as required.
- Performing disaster recovery and system backups as required.
- Providing CM status reports and attending meetings on a weekly or monthly basis.
- Install / maintain switches / routers / firewalls ; rack / cable Ethernet and fiber.
- Support audits / inspections and ATO sustainment.
- Answering questions and resolving issues brought forth by the engineering team.
- Other duties as required.
INFORMATION SYSTEM SECURITY OFFICER (ISSO)
Serve as the principal security advisor to the System Owner on all matters (technical, operational, procedural) affecting the system’s cybersecurity and privacy posture. Maintain close coordination with the team to ensure secure operations.Maintain day-to-day security operations of the system, including user access control, audit log review, vulnerability management, incident handling, and ensure physical / environmental and personnel security measures are enforced.Develop, maintain, and update system security documentation in accordance with the DoD RMF, including systems security plans (SSP), security assessment reports (SAR), and plans of actions and milestones (POA&M). Ensure artifacts remain current and audit ready.Ensure configuration compliance by implementing and maintaining security baselines and approved software / firmware patching. Track deviations and coordinate remediation from network / system admins.Monitor and assess the system environment for security impacts resulting from configuration changes, new connections, or updates. Evaluate risks and provide recommendations for mitigation or authorization.Coordinate and support inspections, assessments, and audits conducted by internal or external agencies. Provide documentation and corrective-action status as needed.Develop and conduct cybersecurity awareness training for system users and technical staff as needed, reinforcing compliance with program security procedures and DoD cybersecurity policies.Participate in incident response activities by reporting, documenting, and assisting in containment and recovery efforts, ensuring lessons learned are captured and implemented.Other duties as required.Competencies

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or other related technical or engineering field. 2-4 years of related network technician experience. Additional experience as an ISSO is preferred but not required. Special Operations experience is a plus. Preferred eMASS training and experience.
Required Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations
Security + minimum, CISSP certification or equivalent preferred.
Work Environment, Programs, and Tools
This position operates both in a professional office environment as well as exposed to outside environmental conditions. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. This role also frequently requires the individual to sit, walk, talk, listen, use close eye acuity, use hands / fingers to grasp or type, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and pull. This position is also subject to noise and hazards as it relates to machinery, electrical current, high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
Required knowledge of the following tool, equipment, and software includes : computer, printer, hard drives, government systems, Windows11; Windows Server 2022; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and 9; Office Pro 2021; Visio 2016; SharePoint; VMware; Beyond Compare 4; PSPad Editor; GIT Server and Client (CM Management); Orion Network Performance Monitor; Adobe Pro. May occasionally require use of MicroStation v8i (CAD); Cisco switches and software; SciTools. This position would also have limited use of SAN file systems; PowerChute Network Shutdown (UPS Software); Perforce (CM Management); and Active Perl .
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
This position is on-site at Ft. Campbell, KY and will require adherence to Government site hours of operation. This position is a full-time position salaried exempt position, expected to work at least 80 hours a payroll period. This position may require evening / weekend work and work outside of the Government site hours of operations when needed to support Program needs.
