Michelle Espejo with Robert Half Financial Services is recruiting for an Assistant Controller at a Prominent Private Equity Firm . This is a full-time permanent role based in San Mateo with a Hybrid schedule.
This firm is driving growth and transformation in the software, data, and analytics space. You’ll be at the heart of the fund’s operations, working alongside principals, the CFO, and portfolio teams. From hands-on accounting to strategic reporting, you’ll gain exposure to complex investment structures and high-profile projects while being part of a culture that values collaboration, innovation, and professional growth.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and review work of fund administrators for outsourced funds.
- Maintain internal fund general ledgers and manage monthly closings, including reconciliations for bank accounts, intercompany balances, investments, and partner capital.
- Prepare financial statements and quarterly investor reporting packages, including allocations and investment roll forwards.
- Assist with quarterly valuations, audits, and tax-related reviews (K-1s, Forms 1042 / 8804, federal / state filings).
- Support SEC compliance and reporting requirements.
- Manage partner capital calls and distributions.
- Collaborate with FP& A on portfolio dashboards.
- Lead special projects across the firm and portfolio companies as needed.

- 4-7+ years experience in-house fund accounting and / or via audit, tax, or fund administration with PE / VC investment funds
- Big 4 accounting background preferred
- Familiarity with tax complexities, including flow-through entities, is a plus.
- Proactive, collaborative, and skilled at process improvement and reporting.
- Strong communication, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize and solve issues independently.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
