Job Description
Primary Function of Position :
Intuitive Surgical, Inc. produces the da Vinci Surgical System, a minimally invasive robotic surgery system that uses highly complex mechanics, replaceable instruments and accessories, and enhanced three-dimensional visualization to extend surgical technique and precision beyond the limits of the human hand.
The Engineering Technician supports the testing and development of new and innovative robotic surgical and electrosurgical instruments and patient access components for the Intuitive da Vinci Surgical System.
He or she must be capable of working well in a highly motivated team environment focused on innovative technology.
Roles and Responsibilities :
- Build, test and troubleshoot prototype surgical instruments and patient access components
- Work directly with Mechanical Engineering teams to support project builds and test protocols supporting concept development
- Manage lab resources, supplies, and equipment (metrology lab, wet lab, mechanical engineering lab, robot room, life cycle ovens)
- Efficiently operate metrology equipment including, OGP, Keyence VHX and LM, Instron, surface roughness tester, hardness tester, TESA shadowgraph, part potting and sectioning, etc.
- Maintain calibration of test and measurement equipment
- Support set up, material / tissue ordering, execution and documentation of feasibility and design validation test protocols
- Develop and build tooling and fixtures in support of testing and assembly
- Maintain warehousing of materials, primarily 3D print room
- Root cause failure analysis of complex mechanical and electrical systems
- Support the quality and regulatory processes as required
- Revises work instructions appropriately; participates in quality or continuous improvements; represents department in cross-functional projects / teams;
effectively negotiates resources with peers
Must be receptive to learning new equipment, software, and processes.
Qualifications
Skill / Job Requirements :
- Mechanical assembly experience
- Ability to manage and run 3D Rapid prototype equipment, software, post processing and maintain equipment, including silicone molding
- Capable of performing effectively with little supervision
- Comfortable with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google docs, etc.
Preferred Skills
- AS degree
- Ability to read basic measurement equipment, scales, micrometers, calipers, etc.
- Experience with electronic test equipment such as Thermocouples, digital scales, signal generators, power supplies, volt meters, etc.
- Ability to read blueprints combined with standard electronic test techniques to perform failure analysis and root-cause determination to a component level
- Experienced and comfortable using Mill, Lathe, bench top tools (drill presses, band saws, Dremels etc.)
- CNC machining and Mastercam experience
- Medical device or other relevant lab experience
- Detail oriented with strong organizational and presentation skills
