The Afterschool Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and activities of the afterschool program at Upper Room KC's licensed childcare facilities in Missouri. This role involves planning and implementing educational and recreational activities, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children, managing staff, and maintaining compliance with state licensing requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBLITIES :
Program Planning and Implementation :
- Develop and implement a comprehensive afterschool program that includes educational, recreational, and enrichment activities.
- Create a structured schedule that balances academic support, physical activity, and creative play.
- Ensure that activities are age-appropriate and align with the developmental needs of children.
- Oversees daily operations of the program and determines priorities.
- Analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of the program and develops new methods aimed at greater success.
- Communicate regularly with parents / guardians about their children’s progress and any program updates.
- Manage the program budget, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently.
Licensing Compliance Responsibilities
Ensure all afterschool program operations are conducted in accordance with Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) and Office of Childhood licensing regulations for school-age care.Maintain up-to-date records on attendance, enrollment, emergency contacts, incident reports, and staff-child ratios in compliance with licensing standards.Assist with scheduling and documentation to ensure all staff meet required annual trainings , including child abuse and neglect identification, CPR / First Aid certification, and other Missouri-mandated trainings.Serve as point of contact during licensing visits, audits, or inspections , and promptly address any deficiencies or corrective actions identified.Staff Management :
Recruit, train, and supervise afterschool program staff and volunteers.Conduct regular staff meetings and provide ongoing professional development opportunities.Evaluate staff performance and provide constructive feedback.Abilities :
Ability to determine and prioritize workload while being flexible to emergent / unplanned needs and situations.Significant decision making and problem solving in the allocation of resources to program components, supervisory issues, scheduling, and provision of program services.Ability to handle highly stressful and sensitive situations in a professional manner.Ability to interpret and implement complex policies and regulations.Ability to work independently and maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.Strong organization and time management skills, ability to meet tight deadlines.Excellent oral and written communication skillsMinimum Requirements :
Bachelors’ degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field.Minimum of three years professional leadership / management and supervisory experience preferably in a child care or afterschool program setting.Strong understanding of Missouri child care licensing regulations.Preferred experience in administration, including balancing regulatory requirements with budget constraints and growing community needs.Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and community members.CPR and First Aid certification
