Job Summary
Under the direction of the Tribal Administrator, the Director of Taxation & Business Licensing will oversee all operations of the Tribal Taxation, business licensing, and audit functions, Sales and Use compliance, and collection of licensing fees and taxes, verifying their accuracy and performing audits when necessary to ensure compliance.
Duties
- Develop, update, administer, and maintain tribal licensing, tax, and audit functions
- Provide detailed monthly written reports to the Business Council on tribal business activities and status
- Verifies sales and tax amounts including copies of invoices for all products that are sued by contractors and vendors doing business on the Moapa Band of Paiutes reservation
- Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer on collection of appropriate taxes and license fees
- Interaction with the Tribal Council, tribal committees, and tribal members as required
- Research federal, states, and local laws to ensure the Tribe is in compliance with tax requirements
- Maintain working relationships with contractors, suppliers, vendors, etc.
- Must be professional and be able to do on-site audits of sales taxes
- Make effective oral presentations to small and large groups
- Must be able to use initiative and exercise independent judgment and sound reasoning
- Maintain accurate records and files
- Prepare clear and accurate reports
- Maintain effective working relationships with staff and tribal members
- Develop budget and report to Tribal Council on revenue and expenses generated by the Tax and Licensing department
- Knowledge of tribal sovereignty as it relates to business management and tribal government operations
- Other duties as needed or required
Requirements
Prefer a 4-year degree in Business Management, Economics, Finance, Marketing, or a related fieldPrefer 5-years progressive management experience with financials, budgeting, and profit and loss responsibilitiesMust have the ability to plan, coordinate, and direct varied, complex, business operationsMust have the ability to multitask and possess excellence in management, planning, and organizationMust have working knowledge of tribal sovereignty as it relates to business management and tribal governance structureExperience or working knowledge in business planning and contract administrationMust have experience interacting with tribal council, committees, boars, and tribal membersMust possess a valid driver's license and provide a 3 year driving history reportMust be insurable through tribal insuranceMust pass pre-employment background investigationMust pass pre-employment alcohol / drug screeningMust be Covid19 vaccinatedIndian Preference Per Section 703(i) of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended
