Within this setting, the Scholarly CommunicationsLibrarian is expected to play an energetic, user-oriented, collaborative role in supporting the mission of GeorgiaSouthernUniversityandtheGeorgiaSouthernUniversityLibrariesScholarly Communications program as it continues to evolve to meet the scholarly communications needs of its three varied campus communities.

Job Summary

ReportingtotheAssociate Dean of Libraries for Research and Assessment,this position identifies, develops and promotes strategic scholarly communication services and programs (asoutlined by theACRL ScholarlyCommunications definitions) in relation to scholarly publishing, access to research, and research data management. This position also assists withassessment and the creation and implementation of programs and services as they relate to libraryassessment. They work closely with library faculty, the Jack N. Averitt College of Graduate Studies, the Faculty Center, and other university units tosupport scholarship andscholarly communications endeavors at Georgia Southern University.

Essential Functions :

  • Inform and educate the Georgia Southern University community of trends and policy issues related to new models of scholarly communication including but notlimited to : scholarly publishing, access to research,and research data management.
  • Participate in campus efforts and develop strategic alliances to support university scholars throughout the research, writing, and publishing process.
  • Develop initiatives and services to support scholarly communication activities related to the institutional repository and other scholarly activities. Initial assistance andreferrals onpublishing agreements, and the management of intellectual property awareness.
  • Assess and understand national and international issues, trends, policies, legislation, and evolutionary changes in academic and commercial publishing, intellectual property rights, and information technologies impacting research and scholarly communication.
  • Advocate for sustainable models of scholarly communication andlead the libraries initiativesin the development and creation of tools and services to facilitate scholarly communication.
  • Participate in the planning, development, and implementation of initiatives and strategies that enable continuous library assessment.
  • Create and support collaborative endeavors that result in services and programming which address the holistic needs of 21st-century graduate students.
  • Engage in research at a level appropriate for the rank and tenure status held. Identify, develop, and write grant proposals.
  • Serve on library and university committees, both ad hoc and standing.
  • Participate in regional or national professional associations, committees, task forces, etc. as circumstances allow and at a level appropriate to the rank and tenure status held.

The position is a 12-month tenure-trackappointment.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned Master¿s Degreein Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA accredited institutionby July 1, 2025.
  • Knowledge of Scholarly Communications as outlined by the ACRL definitions.
  • Willingnesstocommittoprofessionaldevelopmentasappropriatetothediscipline.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
  • Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
  • Willingness to commit to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research / creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years full-time college / university experience at the assistant professor level is required for the rank of associate professor along with a strong record of research and service with publications and presentations in professional venues.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree in Library and Information Science or another discipline, or a second Master¿s degree in another discipline.
  • Proven experience with Scholarly Communications initiatives, programs and activities at an academic library / university setting.
  • Knowledgeof and proven experience withassessmentandevaluationmethods in academic library setting.
  • Experienceteachingcredit-bearingcourses.
  • ExperienceusingonlineplatformssuchasZoom,learningmanagementsystems, andGoogle Workspace.
  • Knowledge of and experience with data literacy and data visualization.
  • Team leadership experience.
  • Experience supervising staff and student assistants.
  • Proposed Salary

    Commensurate with experience.

    This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
