JOB SUMMARY
Benedict College seeks a highly organized and accountable Project Manager to oversee day-to-day execution of the Resilient Autonomous Systems (RAS) program, a contract-funded initiative supported by the Office of Naval Research (ONR). The Project Manager will serve as the central operational lead across all project components research, outreach, evaluation, compliance, and financial tracking and will play a key role in ensuring smooth coordination between campus stakeholders and Integer Technologies, the prime contractor.
This role reports to the Dean in the School of Science and Engineering and is responsible for aligning deliverables, tracking spending, maintaining documentation, and supporting compliance across the RAS program. The successful candidate will bring exceptional attention to detail, strong coordination skills, and experience working on complex, federally funded contracts in a higher education or research setting. This position also coordinates with the Principal Investigator, Faculty Researchers, Outreach Coordinator, Math Coordinator, External Evaluator, External Researcher, STEM Recruiter, and Integer Technologies.
This is a full-time, contract-funded position based in Columbia, South Carolina. A Hybrid work schedule may be considered. Occasional travel may be required for ONR site visits, meetings, and technical reporting. After hours, evenings and weekends may be required as needed during peak reporting or events.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Program Management and Coordination
- Maintain a master project calendar and oversee coordination across internal faculty, external partners, and Integer.
- Track and manage program schedules, milestones, and deliverables to ensure compliance with the Statement of Work (SOW).
- Coordinate the preparation and logistics for ONR program reviews, audits, and site visits in collaboration with Integer Technologies.
Compliance and Documentation Oversight
Monitor and enforce Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) protocols across all research.Maintain secure and compliant documentation for CUI handling, data security, and project.Conduct quality assurance reviews of all deliverables prior to submission to Integer.Financial and Procurement Coordination
Track all contract-funded project expenses and coordinate with internal finance teams to review and reconcile invoices.Maintain budget documentation and ensure that all expenditures align with the contract scope and budget.Support vendor management, documentation, and coordination for externally contracted projects.Partner and Personnel Coordination
Supervise the Outreach Manager / Event Coordinator and provide direction on timing, logistics, and alignment of events and outreach deliverables.Coordinate the workplans, timelines, and deliverables of the external evaluator.Serve as a key liaison between faculty researchers and Integer Technologies to ensure alignment and clear.Form and maintain partnerships throughout the state with school districts, K-12 institutions, nonprofits, and community colleges for the implementation of programs, enhance student recruitment, including but not limited to teacher externships, student mentoring, curriculum adoption, and workforce development.Reporting and Deliverable Management
Prepare and submit monthly technical reports summarizing faculty research progress, outreach efforts, compliance activities, and project expenditures.Track all contract deliverables using internal tools and shared documentation.Assist with the development of briefing materials and consolidated progress updates for ONR and Integer.Key Deliverables
Master project timeline and deliverables tracker.Monthly technical reports aligned with ONR reporting requirements.Budget reconciliation summaries and invoice documentation.CUI compliance records and quality assurance logs.Site visit briefing packets and logistics plans (prepared in collaboration with Integer).Workplans and tracking sheets for external partners (evaluator, researcher, outreach).Stakeholder engagement summaries and debrief memos.Other Duties
Performs other related duties as negotiated to meet the ongoing needs of the College.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK :
Bachelor’s degree in STEM, public administration, project management or a closely related field; Master’s degree preferred.A minimum five (5) years of experience managing federal programs, preferably in higher education, research or defense environments.Familiarity with ONR, DoD compliance, and CUI standards strongly preferred.Demonstrated success coordinating across diverse technical and administrative teams.Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, utilizing Outlook, Word, Excel, Microsoft Teams and Zoom.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Strong organizational and project management skills.Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.Competence with project management tools and financial tracking systems.Ability to maintain documentation integrity and enforce compliance standards.Team leadership and supervisory experience.PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Requires sedentary work that involves walking, standing, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling some of the time. Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and the ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations.
