Salary Range : $85,000 to $115,000, depending on experience
DRYCO Construction, Inc., is a pavement maintenance, coatings, concrete and fencing contractor that consistently earns customer respect for rapid response, effective solutions, and accountability for workmanship, cost and schedule. DRYCO is seeking to add a Construction Safety Specialist to our team in the Sacramento, California area to help support and grow DRYCO’s Safety Culture. This role is critical for ensuring compliance with local, state and federal regulations like Cal / OSHA and for promoting a strong safety culture across the organization.
The Safety Specialist will assist in establishing reliable methods for improving safety performance and creating a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, fostering a culture of safety, accountability and accountability.
The Safety Specialist should be able to identify risk, effectively enforce company policies and ensure key safety metrics are met
The Safety Specialist collaborates closely with Project Managers, Superintendents and field personnel to promote a strong safety culture with a goal to eliminate all accidents, injuries and hazards on construction sites.
General Responsibilities & Duties :
Plan, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety and environmental health programs, procedures, and policies tailored to the specific hazards of concrete, asphalt, coatings, and fencing work jobs.
Conduct regular safety and environmental inspections to audit conditions and safe work practices at jobsites and company properties to ensure compliance with regulations, standards, and company policies.
Assists with inspections, maintenance and familiarization of safety-sensitive equipment, such as fall protection equipment, proper, trenching standards, etc.
Investigate all accidents, injuries, and near misses. Prepare detailed reports, maintain records, and follow up on corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Identify and assess hazards related to the specific construction trades, including but not limited to, working at heights, trenching, heavy equipment, and chemical exposures from coatings. Develop and implement control measures to mitigate these risks.
Perform hazard evaluations of jobsites, tasks and chemicals including creating a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and assisting with proper PPE selection.
Develop and deliver effective safety training programs for all levels of employees, from management to field staff, covering topics like personal protective equipment (PPE), hazard recognition, and emergency procedures.
Ensure the company complies with all applicable safety and health regulations (e.g., Cal / OSHA) and assist with regulatory reporting as needed.
Act as a safety leader and motivator, fostering a proactive safety culture through visible leadership, coaching, and clear communication.
Assist in the investigation and management of workers' compensation and property damage claims, working closely with Human Resources, to protect the company's interests.
Knowledge, Skills and abilities :
Interested candidates should have the ability to demonstrate company values of Honesty, Integrity and Commitment, be highly motivated and very well organized, have a positive “can do” attitude, work well under pressure, a good problem solver and get along well with others.
Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health, or a related field, along with a minimum of 5 years of safety experience in a construction setting. Working knowledge of injury prevention, compliance, and risk reduction techniques.
Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations is a strict Requirement, particularly those applicable to construction in California (e.g., Cal / OSHA standards).
Familiarity with the specific hazards associated with concrete, asphalt, coatings, and fencing operations.
Strong working knowledge of CAL OSHA requirements.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for training, reporting, and working with employees and management.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to address complex safety issues and recommend effective solutions.
Ability to perform physical tasks required for site inspections, such as walking, standing, climbing, and lifting and moving up to 50 pounds, and wearing appropriate PPE.
Occasionally requires grasping, reaching, crawling, stooping and crouching in confined spaces. Requires traversing and ladder ascent / decent to access different areas of jobsite. Must be able to remain stationary for long periods of time.
