Job Description

We are seeking an experiencedLocums Thoracic Surgery Physician to provide high-acuity surgical call coveragein Richmond, VA. This position is hospital-based and focuses on acute carethoracic surgery, offering exposure to a wide range of complex procedures andpathology.

Position Details

Shift Type : 24-hour call shifts (7 : 00 AM – 7 : 00 AM)
Setting : Hospital-based, acute care
Average Cases per Day : 2–3
Duration : Ongoing locum coverage needs

Required ProceduralCompetencies

Thoracic surgical procedures : Bronchoscopy, VATS, Robot-Assisted Thoracic Surgery, Mediastinoscopy, Tube Thoracostomy, Tracheostomy, Pericardial Window, Lobectomy, Pneumonectomy, Thoracotomy, Decortication

Endoscopic procedures : Navigational Bronchoscopy, Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS), Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)

Management of thoracic conditions : Lung cancer, esophageal disorders, pleural effusions, pneumothorax, mediastinal masses, rib fractures, thoracic outlet syndrome, diaphragm hernias, and advanced lung disease (COPD, pulmonary fibrosis)

Requirements

Board Certified in Thoracic Surgery

Active Virginia Medical License – required (no exceptions)

BLS & ACLS certifications

Strong experience in high-acuity thoracic surgical care

Ability to manage emergent and complex thoracic cases independently
