Administrative Support Specialist
The Unified Government Public Health Department is seeking a full-time Administrative Support Specialist. This position will learn and support all unit functions. As a Specialist, you are the first point of contact for a diverse patient population and medical professionals.
Duties include scheduling appointments, answering phone inquiries, assisting patients with check-in and check-out, verifying insurance eligibility, collecting fees, and releasing records. This position will also audit charges, fulfill record release requests, and assist with clinical documentation improvement efforts within an EMR system. This position will provide training and orientation for new unit employees and other staff. Must have a working knowledge of billing and coding fundamentals. The incumbent is expected to multitask, solve patient problems, provide quality service, and maintain positive relationships with patients. Must follow all rules related to patient confidentiality. This position will also collect and compile information to prepare a variety of reports, complete timekeeping for unit staff, and perform other duties of a similar nature as needed. Employees are required to work late clinic once a week and an occasional outreach event sporadically throughout the year.
Qualifications: High School Diploma, or GED, and three years of experience in area of assignment; or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. An associate degree or additional education in health administration is preferred. Allied Health professionals such as MAs, LPNs, and CNAs are encouraged to apply. Strong time management, organizational, critical thinking, and excellent communication skills required, with the ability to work under minimal supervision. Monday through Friday, with a late Wednesday evening clinic for a 40-hour work week. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with dependable punctuality and attendance. A valid Kansas driver's license and reliable transportation are necessary. Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office suites.
Salary Range: $18.55-$19.64/hr.
