GENERAL DUTIES SUMMARY :
Employees in this classification are responsible for cleanliness upkeep and general care of District grounds. The primary responsibility is to provide students staff and community with a safe comfortable & clean environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Determine and use proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to reduce exposure to but not limited to blood borne pathogens heights chemicals vehicle safety propane and other equipment when appropriate
- Operate and maintain gasoline / diesel & power equipment (including but not limited to large grounds equipment-6-10 ft deck riding mowers tractors chain saws sprayers and other grounds related machines / equipment / tools). In addition to carpentry and mechanic tools.
- Complete required safety & maintenance checklists : perform duties associated with checklists; accurately keep records of schedules labor materials & chemicals; use good judgment and follow safety guidelines for care and upkeep of District properties.
- Perform all aspects of landscaping upkeep pest irradiation irrigation and other associated property upkeep.
- Adhere to schedules : plan provide prioritize and organize work in an efficient & timely manner.
- Operate district vehicles (trucks trailers and vans).
- Maintain proper pruning care planting of plants trees shrubs and grass.
- Repair and upkeep of irrigation systems.
- Follow instructions on chemicals equipment procedures schedules and timelines fill out order forms accident reports and any necessary documents to perform the duties in this position.
- Application storage and safe use of all chemicals / pesticides.
- Read write and / or comprehend Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Read blue prints schematics diagrams and operation manuals.
- Ensure energy conservation practices are in use.
- Comply with District procedures policies and safety guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance; follow District uniform / dress code guidelines.
- Regular and punctual attendance.
Marginal Duties and Responsibilities :
Assists building head custodians and maintenance staff as necessary as determined by supervisor.Attend in-service trainings.Attend staff meetingsMay need to substitute / work in schools in a custodial position when shortages in staff require it. There will be certain times during the day or year that require work inside the school (ie : lunch duty gym floor finishing athletic sets ups etc.)QUALIFICATIONS : Minimum :
Knowledge of common plant / turf diseases insects pests and methods used to control them.Follow written or oral instructions with minimal repetition and supervision.Customer service & interpersonal skills : properly respond to requests; adjust schedules to meet the needs of the building; provide or ask for help to complete tasks / repairs; effectively communicate with students staff parents and community including diverse cultures backgrounds and languages; work harmoniously with others.Time management skills for providing and producing sufficient work.Ability to learn and adapt to new programs systems and procedures.Ability to work with minimal supervision & guide less skilled employees.Must be able to communicate effectively at all times remain alert at all times recognize and appropriately respond to emergencies as well as routine safety concerns must be able to recognize and effectively resolve risks to students or other customers within the area.Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.Hold a current Oregon or Washington Drivers license.Maintain personal vehicle insurance at all times in a level acceptable to the District; must maintain an acceptable driving record as defined by the District and must be able to be insured by Districts vehicle insurance policy.Hold or acquire upon employment a valid first aid card and maintain throughout employment.EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE :
High School diploma or GED equivalent.Hold or obtain a pesticide license with-in 6 months of employment.Two years of horticulture or landscape and maintenance experience and / or formal education.Further Required Training :
Within one year following determination of need by the district obtain and maintain current Certified Playground Safety Inspector certification (CPSI)OR
Within 180 days following determination of need by the district obtain and / or maintain one or all of the following pesticide category licenses : School IPM Turf and Ornamental-Insecticide and Fungicide Turf and Ornamental-Herbicide IIHS Moss Control IIHS General Pest IIHS Structural Pest.WORKING CONDITIONS :

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Tigard-Tualatin School District 23J and Oregon School Employees Association Chapter 51.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a 12 month assignment on the I range of the Classified Salary Schedule. The employee shall advance to the J range of the Classified Salary Schedule after completion of (2) supervisor approved training (see Further Required Training ).
