Under the supervision of the Director of Respiratory Therapy ensures competent capabilities to ensure quality care provided to all patients by the clarification and understanding of the responsibilities of all members of the Respiratory Departments. Upon request of the physicians, sets up and operates various types of respiratory equipment utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases and / or illness.

RT responsibility for ABG’s

• Review Policy / Procedure Manual
• Daily startup procedure QC
• Perform and document corrective action if QC exceeds limits
• Analyze patients samples and review results according to written policy
• Correlate patients results with previous results
• Perform and document preventative maintenance as scheduled
• Report and file results
• Troubleshooting and documentation of corrective action
• Reporting and correctly documentation critical values
• Departmental record completion
• Patient and sample identification policy procedure is followed
• Collects specimens according to policy; correctly identifies patient, labels specimens, performs and documents Allen test
• Appropriately labels / handles biohazardous material
• Guidelines for specimen rejections / acceptance – documents rejected specimens
• Participates in proficiency testing program
