Senior Underwriter

The Senior Underwriter will underwrite healthcare professional and general liability policies for specialized products in senior living, hospitals, and miscellaneous medical facilities. Working within assigned underwriting authority, the Senior Underwriter makes analytical, data-driven decisions, including risk assessment and pricing, with limited guidance from leadership as needed.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of brokers, agents, and clients; use market presence and expertise to source and underwrite profitable business on behalf of Liberty.
• Maintain and grow relationships with agents and brokers to strengthen market position.
• Contribute to product development and help implement new offerings.
• Participate in team initiatives, such as process and tool improvements.
• Stay current on relevant legislation and regulation and understand its implications for underwriting.
• Collaborate effectively with underwriting support, claims, actuarial, and regional underwriting leadership.
• Mentor junior underwriters and new hires (without direct line management responsibility).
• Analyze departmental portfolio data and recommend improvements as appropriate.
• Identify and communicate emerging exposure trends within the line of business.

Pay Philosophy : The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and / or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
