The General Mechanic is a skilled fully qualified machinist & pipefitter mechanic or an advance skill industrial mechanic with an advance skill. The General Mechanic role maintains production and quality by ensuring safe operation of machinery and mechanical equipment. The General Mechanic role aligns, replaces and repairs defective parts, adjusts machines and control instruments, dismantles machines to remove or repair parts, troubleshoots packaging equipment failures, and weld as needed. The General Mechanic is expected to safely use basic hand and power tools and possess a basic understanding of belts, belt drives, chain drives, gear boxes and conveyors. This role will be required to read and interpret written description or engineering drawing relative to the maintenance function planned or performed.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a plant manufacturing equipment and facilities
- Demonstrate the initiative to investigate and offer improvements to plant operations
- Service, clean and inspect equipment periodically following established PM’s (preventative maintenance)
- Create notifications and follow up on needed repairs
- Utilize problem solving techniques in resolving equipment issues
- Properly lubricate equipment as per the manufacturer recommended lubrication schedules or content
- Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team
- Safely operate mobile equipment such as fork trucks, hand trucks, lifts, boom lifts etc.
- Communicate appropriately with other employees
- Participate in morning meetings
- Possess practical knowledge of BQ 9000 concepts, practices, and procedures
- Understand Bioenergy Quality Policy and dedication to consistently and safely provide quality products that meets the needs of our customers
- May serve on an Employee Safety (Involvement) Committee
Requirements :
High School Diploma or GED requiredAssociate degree or apprenticeship / certificate from an accredited technical school / college in a related field considered an advantageAt least three [3] to five [5 ] years of chemical plant mechanic experience or a closely related industrial settingStrong trouble shooting and problem solving skillsAbility to walk for prolonged periodsAble to work on multi-levelsAble to lift 50 pounds
