Community Engagement Coordinator
The Community Engagement Coordinator supports the City's efforts to promote its services, engage with the community, and enhance quality of life programs for the City of Rowlett. Under the general supervision of the Community Engagement Manager, this role is responsible for planning and executing city special events and volunteer programs, including budgeting, concept development, and sponsorship solicitation. This role promotes events, supervises contract labor and volunteers, and evaluates event responsiveness and efficiency. The role supports neighborhood educational programming and fosters partnerships with local businesses. The ideal candidate is a creative and organized professional, passionate about community engagement and public service, capable of managing multiple projects, and skilled at working with diverse audiences. Performs related duties as required.
Responsible for planning and implementation of all city special events and volunteer programs. Prepares budgets, develop concepts, prepares annual special event agenda, and solicits sponsorships. Promotes and markets special events and volunteer programs through print, broadcast, and social media. Supervises contract labor, vendors, and volunteers by delegating job assignments, hiring, training, and evaluating.
Continuously monitors and evaluates responsiveness, efficiency, and effectiveness of special events. Maintains inventory and purchases supplies and equipment needed for special events. Prepares and maintains attendance records, event summaries and evaluations. Works with the local school districts in coordination of facilities, programs, and marketing.
Works with City departments to create community outreach programs to educate citizens about local government operations, including planning and implementation of the City Academy. Promotes and organizes neighborhood educational programs and participates in the Neighborhood Summit and HOA Legal Clinic with the cities of Garland and Plano.
Contacts local and regional businesses and organizations for program and special event support and participation. Assists with city marketing and branding efforts including website editing; developing social media and other content and graphics; and using desktop and design software programs to layout, design and produce flyers, newsletters, brochures, and various types of printed materials and graphics. Assists in the research, development and implementation of marketing and media events. Answers questions and provides information to the public regarding events, activities, and programs; investigates complaints and recommends corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.
Performs other duties as assigned. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential function of this position, as is the ability to create and maintain professional, harmonious working relationships with others.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Public Administration, Business Administration, and related field and two years related experience in coordinating special events, community programs, volunteerism, outreach and marketing. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job will be considered.

Software Proficiency : Proficient in Microsoft Office, Canva, Adobe, and basic mobile / portable radio operation.

Leadership & Facilitation : Able to lead and facilitate meetings and manage both small and large groups effectively.
Data Analysis : Able to analyze data and draw conclusions.
Safety Knowledge : Familiar with safe working procedures and pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and safety regulations.
Event Management : Skilled in planning, coordinating, and executing community events.
Public Relations : Ability to manage events and programs within budgetary allocations and foster relationships with community stakeholders, including youth groups, civic organizations, boards, residents, and colleagues.
Valid driver's license required. Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driving standards as established by the City of Rowlett. Must report all traffic citations to his / her departmental Director or his / her designee within two working days of receipt.
Must be able to work a varying schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
The employee is frequently required to stand for long periods of time, bend, stoop, crouch, carry, and lift up to 50lb boxes. Work may be performed in climate-controlled facilities and outdoors in all weather and temperature extremes. Incumbent must work flexible hours to accommodate the changing demand for services. Evening and weekends are often required.
