The unit cares for patients ages 18 and older with acute and / or chronic illnesses. Patients may have conditions such as sepsis, respiratory, gastrointestinal, endocrine, cardiac disease, and COVID-19. The nursing staff will be responsible for managing medications, patient assessments, and care plans. Everyone in the care team works together towards a common goal of providing excellent patient care. Team members include bedside nurses, licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, and virtual nurses. Virtual nurses assist with administrative tasks that do not require physical presence. Team-based care promotes teamwork, communication, and leadership skills. Staff members are expected to float within their scope to meet facility needs. The patient-to-nurse ratio during days is 1 : 8 and during nights it is 1 : 9. Weekends require working four shifts out of eight possible within a four-week period.
