Director of Engineering, Platform – Weights & Biases

CoreWeave, the AI Hyperscaler™, acquired Weights & Biases to create the most powerful end‑to‑end platform for developing, deploying, and iterating AI faster. Since 2017, CoreWeave has operated a growing footprint of data centers across the US and Europe and was ranked as one of the TIME100 most influential companies of 2024. By combining CoreWeave’s cloud infrastructure with the best‑in‑class AI tools from Weights & Biases, we’re setting a new standard for how AI is built, trained, and scaled.

Our integration accelerates a shared mission : to empower developers with the tools and infrastructure they need to push the boundaries of what AI can do. From experiment tracking and model optimization to high‑performance training clusters, agent building, and inference at scale, we’re serving the full AI lifecycle—all in one seamless platform.

Weights & Biases has long been trusted by over 1,500 organizations—including AstraZeneca, Canva, Cohere, OpenAI, Meta, Snowflake, Square, Toyota, and Wayve—to build better models, AI agents, and applications. As part of CoreWeave, that impact is amplified across a broader ecosystem of AI innovators, researchers, and enterprises.

We’re looking for bold thinkers and agile builders excited to shape the future of AI. If you’re passionate about solving complex problems at the intersection of software, hardware, and AI, now is the time to join our team.

About the Role

Our Platform Engineering organization powers the model‑training infrastructure that enables ML practitioners to build, train, and scale cutting‑edge models. As Director of Engineering, Platform, you’ll lead multiple mission‑critical teams :

  • The Metrics Team : builds high‑performance APIs to ingest and query training metrics, logs, files, and artifacts central to model development.
  • The Identity Team : secures the platform through authentication, authorization, and audit capabilities critical to enterprise‑grade ML workflows.
  • The SDK Team : provides scalable, portable, and developer‑friendly client libraries to integrate seamlessly into training pipelines and ML stacks.
  • The Billing Engineering Team : ensures accurate usage metering, entitlement enforcement, and seamless integration with pricing and payment systems.

Your work will enable product and ML infrastructure teams to move faster while ensuring reliability, scalability, and security across all platform layers.

Who You Are

This high‑impact leadership role focuses on scaling the core services that power Weights & Biases’ model‑training platform. You’ll drive strategy and execution across four cross‑functional engineering teams, partnering closely with product, infrastructure, and customer‑facing teams. You will influence architectural direction, evolve the developer experience, and ensure the underlying systems that support model tracking, identity, and monetization scale with our user base—from individual practitioners to Fortune 500 ML teams.

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with 3+ years in a senior engineering leadership role
  • Experience building and leading teams focused on platform engineering, infrastructure, or backend systems in a cloud‑native SaaS environment
  • Deep technical expertise in building scalable APIs, SDKs, or core services used in production environments
  • Strong understanding of model‑training workflows or ML infrastructure and how platform engineering supports ML velocity
  • Familiarity with authentication protocols (e.g., OIDC, OAuth2), identity architecture, and audit requirements for enterprise security
  • Experience designing metering systems, entitlement enforcement, and billing infrastructure
  • Track record of hiring and mentoring senior engineers and engineering managers across diverse technical domains
  • Preferred (if applicable)

  • Prior experience at a company delivering ML platforms or developer tools
  • Familiarity with ML training frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and their integration needs
  • Experience with platform reliability, observability, and developer tooling for high‑scale systems
  • Knowledge of billing systems such as Stripe or usage‑based pricing infrastructure
  • Exposure to enterprise compliance frameworks like SOC2, GDPR, or ISO 27001
