POSITION SUMMARY :
The Transportation Compliance Director provides strategic leadership and direction for the company’s transportation and driving operations, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal company policies. The Transportation Compliance Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all regulatory compliance programs related to the company’s transportation operations. This role will oversee driver compliance, fleet safety, licensing, training, audits, and risk management within the transportation function, while also ensuring efficiency and alignment with the company’s operations. The Director will be a key leader in building a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence across the transportation team.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
Leadership & Strategy
- Provide vision, direction, and leadership for the transportation compliance function.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure compliant and efficient transportation operations.
- Partner with senior leadership to align transportation compliance objectives with company goals in agriculture production and distribution.
Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
Ensure compliance with all applicable DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, state, and local transportation regulations.Oversee driver qualification files, licensing, hours of service (HOS), electronic logging devices (ELD), drug / alcohol testing programs, and vehicle inspection records.Maintain accurate records and prepare for internal and external audits.Monitor and interpret federal, state, and local transportation regulations (FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, EPA, state trucking authorities, etc.).Develop and maintain company policies, SOPs, and training programs to ensure compliance.Manage licensing, permits, and registrations across all jurisdictions.Identify compliance gaps, risks, and emerging regulatory issues.Safety & Risk Management
Drive a culture of safety across all transportation operations.Monitor safety performance, analyze incidents, and implement corrective actions.Lead training programs for drivers and staff on compliance, safety, and company standards.Operations Oversight
Oversee the transportation driving function from a compliance standpoint for all vehicles (including all company light vehicles), to ensure safe and efficient product movement.Collaborate with company leadership, operations, logistics, and supply chain teams to optimize scheduling and delivery.Manage vendor relationships for fleet maintenance, fuel, and compliance systems.Ensure vehicles meet inspection, preventative maintenance, and environmental standards.Develop and maintain key performance metrics (KPIs) and performance reporting to support proactive communication and action.Work in conjunction with other departments to assure seamless transportation and delivery activity throughout the company-wide network
Maintain budgetary responsibility for the Transportation function. Continuously monitor spending compared to budgets to ensure achievement of department and company-wide goals
Team Development
Lead, mentor, and develop transportation compliance staff and driver managers.
Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Transportation, or related field (or equivalent experience).15+ years of progressive experience in transportation compliance, logistics, or fleet operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership roleStrong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and agricultural transportation regulations.Experience managing driver compliance programs, audits, and risk management initiatives.Proven ability to lead and motivate teams while driving operational excellence.Ability to balance regulatory requirements with operational efficiency.Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.Agricultural industry or perishable goods transportation experience preferred.Ability to lead cross-functional projectsHighly effective communicator, both verbally and in writingHigh sense of accountability and follow-throughMust be able to work as a team towards a common goalMaintain a positive attitudeDesire for self-improvement and professional growthIn addition to our more traditional benefits, we also offer great perks and numerous resources for professional development and team building :
